Perfectly complete, the teachings embraced by both the Great and Small Vehicles remain until they have not yet disappeared. Although there are teachings, if there is no friend to admonish oneself and subsequently bring benefit and happiness, it is of no use. However, having a special Dharma friend who is in accordance with the scriptures and teachings, one is complete with the resources to engage in hearing, thinking, and meditating. As stated in the Sutra Requested by Chandra-garbha: "In this world, it is difficult to find even someone who diligently acts in accordance with the Dharma." Even with these, if there is no virtuous spiritual friend, one will not find the path to liberation. Nowadays, lamas and great virtuous spiritual friends who understand the correct path of the sutras and tantras without distortion, and whose minds are as vast as the sky, and who engage in benefiting others, reside in the world, making the basis for reliance superior to others and complete. As stated in the same sutra: "It is also difficult to find a truly complete virtuous spiritual friend." Being thus complete, it is also difficult to find conducive conditions that do not fall into either extreme when practicing Dharma. Because of being preoccupied with food and clothing, the diligence in practicing Dharma becomes lax. Nowadays, for those who sincerely practice Dharma, patrons and faithful ones offer resources; relying on the special instructions of the superiors, the holy Dharma of asceticism and essence extraction; and the tradition of giving and receiving during the autumn months has not yet disappeared. Therefore, at this very time when one has complete resources for conducive conditions for survival, whether one achieves the ultimate aspiration depends entirely on this moment. In order to seize the path to liberation and proceed to the island of great bliss, do not be attached to the appearances of this life, wealth, possessions, retinue, relatives, friends, and so on. One should cherish diligence as if one's head were on fire, or as if a snake had entered the lap of a coward. As stated in the Karunapundarika Sutra: "Having abandoned the eight unfree states and obtained the complete leisure and endowments, it is as rare as one person opening their eyes among a hundred blind people. Therefore, be mindful and diligently strive, or you will regret it later." Also, as stated in the Sutra Requested by King Udayana: "The Buddha is the benefactor of the world, the great sage, who appears once in hundreds of millions of kalpas. Now that you have obtained precious and endowed leisure, if you desire liberation, abandon carelessness." Also, as stated in the Sutra of Perfect Purity of Discipline: "Monks, having obtained it, it

Since obtaining ordination from the Victorious One's teachings is so difficult, why not practice with diligence and steadfast asceticism? Aging, sickness, and death are sure to come, and the Buddha's teachings will also decline, so one will regret it later, it is said. Such is the leisure and endowment, difficult to obtain as illustrated by examples, like a yoke-hole adrift in the middle of the ocean, a blind turtle inserting its neck into it, it is more difficult to be reborn as a human from the lower realms, just as it is difficult for peas scattered on a smooth moss-covered wall to remain there. Even if one is reborn as a human, it is rare to be born in the central lands. For example, in the depths of the ocean, a blind turtle comes to the surface once every hundred years, and a single yoke-hole does not stay in one place even for a moment, but is carried by the wind in all directions. When these two meet, and the turtle's neck happens to fit into the hole, it is even more difficult to obtain a human body again than being born in the lower realms. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: Therefore, the Bhagavan said that obtaining a human body is extremely rare, like a blind turtle inserting its neck into a yoke-hole adrift in the great ocean. It is said. Furthermore, going through samsara after samsara, obtaining this human body now is more difficult than peas scattered on smooth moss on a wall remaining there. As it is said in the Essence of the Moon Sutra: It is also difficult to be reborn as a human after turning away from the eight unfavorable conditions. Although there are many who obtain leisure and endowment, it is difficult to find one who enters the sacred Dharma, just as it is difficult for a universal monarch to appear. As it is said in the Golden Light Sutra: It is also difficult to encounter the Dharma and engage in yogic practice. One should think that the appearance of a Buddha in the world is rarer than the Udumbara flower, therefore one should enter the Dharma and strive diligently. As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: The Udumbara flower does not grow in all places, but only in its garden on the northern mountain peak untouched by the sea, and it does not grow at all times, but only when a Buddha appears in the world. Even when it grows, it flourishes greatly when the Buddha turns the wheel of Dharma, and when the Buddha passes into nirvana, it withers and falls to the ground.
