This is the commentary on the twelfth chapter, the chapter of extensive explanation. Thus, in order to achieve liberation by clearly understanding the general and specific characteristics of all dharmas through the wisdom arising from hearing, with the second Vajra position, the wisdom arising from contemplation, one should contemplate the excellent meanings of hearing in general. In particular, the order of advising to contemplate the five aspects such as the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment is as follows: Having been adorned with excellent hearing in this way, one must generate the wisdom of contemplation in the mindstream. That is to say, all the meanings of hearing, especially the five aspects to be contemplated, the certainty of the meaning of hearing depends on the wisdom arising from contemplation. Therefore, when entering into inner contemplation through the close examination of meaning, such as the philosophical tenets and the establishment of the world as mentioned above, and especially the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, impermanence of life, the benefits of faith, the law of karma, and the faults of samsara, these five aspects should be engaged in contemplation. Among them, the most excellent of the supports for achieving enlightenment is the human body with leisure and endowment. Therefore, one should generate joy and happiness upon obtaining it. If one does not contemplate it, there is the fault of wasting leisure. Even if obtained, there is no certainty. Therefore, in order to accomplish the accumulation of merit, one should encourage oneself with the whip of diligence, contemplating the impermanence of life. If one does not contemplate it, there is the fault of not being able to grasp the path of liberation due to laziness and indolence. After that, one should generate the army of faith, which is cherished above all else. If one does not generate it, there is the fault of losing the root of the Dharma. After that, one should contemplate the subtle causes and effects of good and bad karma. If one does not contemplate it, there is the fault of never being able to escape from the suffering of samsara. After that, one should contemplate the faults of the high and low states of samsara. If one does not contemplate it, there is the fault of not being able to grasp the path of liberation and enlightenment because one does not understand what to accept and reject in samsara and nirvana. Thus, these five dharmas enable a person to enter the path to liberation without error. Thus, among the five dharmas to be contemplated, the first is to contemplate the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment: turning away from non-leisure, becoming a human being, having complete faculties, being born in a land where the Dharma flourishes, awakening good karma, not falling into evil destinies, having faith in the Dharma, and having many Dharma friends, is extremely difficult to obtain. Whoever is born in the endless cycle of samsara

After being carried away by the waters of karma, now that we have found the boat of leisure and endowment, and are able to cross to the other side of samsara, we have found something extremely rare, and we should rejoice greatly and apply ourselves to the Dharma. Among them, it is extremely difficult to obtain leisure, which is freedom from the eight unfree states, and it is also difficult to be born as a human being and to have complete faculties. As it is said in "The Liberation of the Brahmin King's Hot Birth": "It is difficult to be free from the eight unfree states. It is difficult to obtain leisure and endowment. It is difficult to be born as a human being. It is difficult to have complete faculties." Auspicious favorable conditions, such as a good land where the Dharma flourishes, one's own past aspirations to practice the Dharma, the karmic connections awakened by the power of merit to enter the Dharma, and meeting and relying on a supreme guru and spiritual friend, these four great wheels are also extremely difficult to obtain. It is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Relying on a noble person, dwelling in a favorable place, having made good aspirations in the past, and also performing meritorious deeds, you possess the four great wheels." It is also extremely difficult to always do good without being turned away by the end of karma. It is also extremely difficult to enter with faith in the abiding of the teachings. It is also extremely difficult to be in the company of many virtuous friends who practice according to the Dharma. Therefore, if we do not practice the Dharma when we have obtained such leisure, it will be difficult to obtain such leisure in the future, and it will also be rare to encounter the Dharma. It is said in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: "This leisure and endowment is extremely difficult to obtain. It is able to accomplish the benefit of human life. If we do not accomplish benefit in this life, how will we obtain perfect endowment in the future?" Thinking about the reasons for these difficulties, there are eight: First, thinking about the unfree states and how difficult they are to obtain: hell, hungry ghosts, animals, long-lived gods, border regions, wrong views, the absence of a Buddha, and dumbness. These eight are not vessels for the Dharma. That is to say, because there is no leisure to practice the Dharma, it is called a place of unfree state. Among these, there are eight unfree states due to one's own continuum and basis, and eight unfree states due to sudden circumstances. First, the first eight are: hell, hungry ghosts, and animals, all three of which are tormented by their own suffering.
