If there is earth, do not cling to the formless. (1) "These principles of wisdom, the Buddha has briefly explained in the sutras, like abandoning, and proclaimed in the Dharma of Abhisamaya." Thus it is said. Self-knowing and other-knowing are the same: If consciousness knows itself, then other-knowing of forms, etc., should also exist. This is not possible, because if knowing is not simultaneous, then the view will be inverted; if knowing is simultaneous, then it will become independent. If you say so, self-knowing is also not possible, because there is no knower and known; just as a sword cannot cut itself. Clinging and experiencing are the same: If there is a wisdom that experiences pleasure and pain, then there should also be clinging to objects, because there is no difference between experiencing and clinging. If you say so, because the object of grasping depends on falsehood, clinging cannot be true; because truth that depends on falsehood is impossible. If you say so, experiencing also cannot be true, because there is no experiencer and experienced in oneself; because there is no ongoing experience; because it is the nature of clinging, it is false, and there is no truth in its nature. Other-powered and imputed are the same: If the other-powered mind and mental factors are real, then the self of a person (pudgala-ātman, Devanagari: पुद्गल-आत्मन्, IAST: pudgala-ātman, person-self) should also be real. This is not possible, because if you search for the self in the aggregates, whether it is the same as or different from the aggregates, you cannot find it. If you say so, the mind and mental factors are also not real, because if you search in the moment and continuity, or inside and outside the body, you cannot find them. Innate and temporary are the same: If there is the alaya-consciousness of natural wisdom, then there should also be temporary consciousness, such as the six aggregates. This is not true, because due to the power of conditions, it sometimes arises and sometimes does not arise, (1) therefore there is no inherent existence. If you say so, the alaya-consciousness is also not real, because you cannot find it even if you search. The present moment does not exist before or after, and only things are pervaded by the past and future, so it does not exist now (2). The sutra says: Because all dharmas are of equal nature, the Prajnaparamita is of equal nature. By this reasoning, the statement that the innate consciousness of the present moment is empty is also refuted. Here, neither innate nor non-innate consciousness is established, so it is like space.
