From the absence of, becoming a student of another with dull faculties, those of the lineage who delight in quickly passing beyond sorrow. The second is, those with middling faculties by nature, who desire liberation alone, delight in solitude, and are of the lineage who delight in quickly passing beyond sorrow. The third is, those with sharp faculties, great compassion for all sentient beings, and the absence of self in phenomena, vast benefit for beings, and who are not afraid to hear of the great deeds of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and who are of the lineage who are enthusiastic about practicing the six perfections. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: Before application, compassion, and faith and patience, and truly practicing virtue, are truly explained as the signs of lineage. So it is said. The fourth is, those of the lineage who develop faith in whatever path they encounter. Although the Hearers believe that existence exists even below small patience, according to the Great Vehicle, even if one attains Arhatship, it will change. The fifth is, whatever one hears about the benefits of Dharma and liberation, the faults of samsara, the praise of happy migrations, the suffering of bad migrations, one's mind does not change, and even if one sees a truly virtuous spiritual friend, and the wonders of the Three Jewels, etc., one has no faith even as small as a sesame seed, one does not develop the thought of entering the teachings, or even if one does, it is only for the sake of harming, or for the sake of livelihood, etc., having ordained without faith, accumulating the karma of abandoning the Dharma, not having a genuine intention to take vows from the beginning, therefore not being attached, or even if attached, having become torn and merely a facade, this is considered to be those with wrong views, of the nature of never completely passing beyond sorrow. As it says in the Compendium of Topics: Those who are completely afflicted and always possess afflictions are of the nature of never completely passing beyond sorrow. It is seen as belonging to those with great desire, because they do not have the cause of liberation, because they never possess the cause of happiness. So it is said. There are three aspects to the five bases: their individual essence, classification, and the intention of being able to overcome. Regarding essence, although form is not material, it appears as form due to the power of the ripening of the imprints of the appearance of objects on the all-ground consciousness. Regarding mind: it is the eight collections of consciousness, namely the six entering consciousnesses, the all-ground consciousness, and the afflicted mind, which are eight different substances. Among these, the all-ground consciousness is the imprints

It is about the meaning of the basis of the Alaya consciousness, its nature being the constant continuation of multiple moments. It is divided into the aspect of fruition and the aspect of seeds, maturing through the power of good and non-good, residing un-obscured and indeterminate, and the two abilities to produce fruit divided by the habitual imprints that exist within it. The retinue consists of the five pervasive elements such as touch, thus the six dharmas that are constantly inseparable. The object of focus is unclear, focusing on the vast realm of containers and contents. Therefore, the seven consciousnesses and their retinues do not arise from their own continuum, but divide the habitual imprints formed in similar future lives into the Alaya consciousness, arising from each moment of the Alaya consciousness like the shadow of a vase. Therefore, it acts as the basis for the actions and the acted upon of samsara, as well as the aggregates of consciousness of good, non-good, and indeterminate, and their retinues, and is called the Alaya consciousness of various habitual imprints. The realm is the essence of self-nature purity, the qualities of the unconditioned that transcend suffering, and is therefore called the Alaya consciousness of meaning. By habituating to the virtuous liberation aspects that exist in the habitual Alaya consciousness, the defilements of the realm become thinner, thereby weakening the power of its own basis, the habitual Alaya consciousness. In the "Heap of Jewels Sutra," it says, "The heart essence is spoken and shown by the name of Alaya consciousness." Here, the habitual Alaya consciousness, which acts as the basis of samsara, is elaborated in detail. The afflicted mind is the firm mind that clings to the meaning of self in the Alaya consciousness, accompanied by nine retinues such as the view of self, and arises at all times except when abiding in the noble path and between the samadhi of cessation. Mental factors are fifty-one, such as touch, and in one continuum, there exist sixty dharmas of consciousness and so on simultaneously. Among them, the main and retinue of mind and mental factors do not mutually depend on each other; if they did, they would fall into the fault of depending on themselves and what they depend on. Non-associated formations are twenty-three, such as attainment, which are merely nominally existent established on states, not substantially existent. The unconditioned refers to the non-substantial that is not produced by causes and conditions, suchness, as well as,
