If it is thought that the appearance of seeing a vase previously appears in the mind, then, since the vase has not been established, its appearance cannot be recalled. If mind, things, and generalities (concepts) are real and unreal, then that is too much. If they are not the same, then it is contradictory for the mind to recall them. Because things and non-things are contradictory entities, they are not established. Second, it is not the appearance of the vase, but rather clinging to one's own mind as appearing there. The recollection of the vase is also negated, so it is not established. Third, it is merely the presumption of conceptual thought, and there is no way to recall that object itself. Therefore, the past, future, and present objects, with the present mind making them into objects, are themselves unrelated to the object, and therefore it will also become not recalling the object. In the Four Hundred, it says: "What is called recollection is of the past, and becomes inverted towards the object." There are nine negations of non-associated formations: general negation, attainment negation, similar type negation, four dharma negation, letter negation, entering negation, quick negation, object negation, and collection negation. First, non-associated formations are not established as real even in name, because they are neither the same nor different from form, etc. They are not the same, because it would follow that impermanence becomes form, and that there is no impermanence on formless phenomena. It cannot be different, because the connection with form is not established, and it would follow that it is not a single entering place. This reasoning can also be applied to other aspects. There are three negations of attainment: agent and object, time, and investigation on the object to be attained. First, in the case of vows, etc., the object to be attained and the agent of attainment cannot be the same, because it is impossible for one to have both agent and object. Second, when Devas grants attains a vase, it cannot be said to be the time of attainment. If one attains what has already been attained, then it is cut off. If one attains what has not been attained, then it has not arisen. If one attains at the time of attainment, then it is negated because the encounter is not established. Third, a vase is a permanent phenomenon, and cannot be the object to be attained, because permanence is not established as the object to be attained, and if it is attained, it will become impermanent. Impermanence cannot be the object to be attained, because it is destroyed when it is made into the object to be attained. In the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds, it says: "Thus, in empty things, what is there to be gained and what is there to be lost?" There are three negations of similar types: mutual dependence, not being able to determine the same or different, and the commonality not being established. First, a vase and a woolen cloth do not have the same impermanence, because neither of them has
