Appearing as different times is a miracle. To refute mental factors, there are four: general refutation, individual refutation, refutation of perception, and refutation of memory. The first has two: Refuting oneness and otherness. The first is: If mind and mental factors are one, then in terms of terminology, they will not be established as other entities, and like mental factors, the mind will distinguish the differences of all actions, and like the mind, mental factors will be examined in terms of essence, and they will confuse each other in number, thus leading to six or fifty-one,༼༡༽and will be the same as the general. If they are different, then the definition is not reasonable, and it will lead to too many parts of inference, and it is not༼༢༽reasonable in terms of holding or not holding the general meaning, and it will lead to not pervading each other. For individual refutation, there are three: essence, aspect, and sound meaning are not reasonable. First, since there is no following between mind and oneness or otherness, the five all-pervasive actions are not established. Since object and subject, meeting and not meeting, simultaneous and non-simultaneous are not allowed, the five object determinations are not established. Since the basis of reliance, goodness itself, is excluded, the eleven goodnesses are not established. Since affliction is not the agent of affliction, the root afflictions and near afflictions are not established. For different and simultaneous situations, since there is actually no mutual assistance, the other four transformations and all the previous ones are excluded. Second, if the aspects of each difference are taken as objects, mental factors will not exist if there is no other. If these are established as other and other, then the one consciousness that completely cuts off all aspects of the object will not be established. Third, ༼༣༽sound meaning is also not reasonable, because "mental factor" is not allowed. If it arises from meeting with the mind, it will lead to becoming the mind. If it does not meet, it is not allowed to arise from the mind. Since meeting is not established, arising from the mind is not established. Since there are no two, producer and produced, in one entity, and the arising from different and simultaneous situations has been refuted, and if it arises from non-simultaneous times, simultaneity will disappear. In the Ornament of Sutras, it says: The nature of mind appears as two, Appearing as attachment and so on, Appearing as faith and so on, ༼༡༽Afflictions and virtuous dharmas, Exist or not. And, in the Two Examinations, it says: Essence formless seer, No sound hearer also, No smell smeller also, No taste taster also, No touch toucher also, No mind mental factor arising

There is also not. Thus, it is said that all phenomena encompassed by the five aggregates are empty in nature, like illusions. As stated in the Heart Sutra: "Regarding those five aggregates, one should also truly and correctly observe that their nature is empty. Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Form is not different from emptiness, emptiness is not different from form. Likewise, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are also empty." Furthermore, as stated in the Mind Commentary: "Those who wish to benefit others teach the five aggregates of form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness to the Shravakas. The supreme among bipeds (Buddha) always said that form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like a bubble in water, perception is like a mirage, mental formations are like a plantain tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. Such a teaching of the aggregates is for Bodhisattvas." Among them, the nominalists who look outward believe that form and so on, like a pillar, are empty in their own nature. They consider the term "appearance-emptiness" to be unacceptable, because they see faults such as seeing emptiness as they see appearance. Yogis who realize inwardly believe that form is empty because the object of consciousness is empty. Even though the appearance of an object arises in consciousness, form has no self-characteristic, so form empties consciousness, and thus it is said that emptiness is form. The form that appears to consciousness and the consciousness that appears to form are internal. The form that is empty of consciousness and the object that is empty of form are external. Since these are like illusions and dreams, transcending one and different, they believe that form is not different from emptiness and emptiness is not different from form. Refuting perception: The objects of perception, such as good and bad, big and small, are merely established in relation to each other and are not truly established. Furthermore, for the same object, some find it pleasing and some do not, and so on, which arises merely from internal habituation. Moreover, since the object is not established as either subtle or coarse, the perception that takes it as an object is also false. Like falsehood, if one examines its own nature, it is also solitary. As stated in the sutra: jitnī dūra taka kalpanā hai utnī dūra taka jhūṭha hai Refuting memory has three aspects: the past object is generally not established, it is an imputation, and it contradicts the object of action. First, remembering a pot
