Holding and contemplating, recognizing it as having the meaning of cherishing; individually examining the Dharma, recognizing it as difficult to encounter in hundreds of thousands of kalpas; abandoning those who seek the Dharma, recognizing it as abandoning nectar and consuming poison; those who listen and contemplate, should rely on the aspiration that makes it meaningful. Thus it is said. The six difficult practices of patience that are shown are: From that, in the direction of virtuous friends and the Dharma, enduring the suffering of heat and cold; enduring the suffering of hunger and thirst; enduring the suffering of abuse and ridicule; enduring the suffering of fatigue from travel; enduring the suffering of giving and seeking necessities; even life that is cherished, one must mortgage and endure, this is important. Thus it is said. The armor of six that are not changed by conditions are: From that, for teaching the Dharma and diligently engaging in the Dharma, even a short spear cannot stop it, one must strive. Accumulate much learning; hold much learning; understand the meaning of the Dharma; possess the conduct of that meaning; and rely on such a person; respectfully serve such a person. Thus it is said. The six distinctions of what should be done are: From that, knowing all the roots of virtue; knowing and accomplishing them properly; generating great compassion for sentient beings; upholding the true Dharma; not cutting off the lineage of the Three Jewels; ripening sentient beings, one should possess such things to be done. Thus it is said. Accomplishing six necessities is: From the Sutra Requested by Light Protector: After hearing, the necessity of knowing the distinctions of the Dharma; after knowing, the necessity of not doing what should not be done; the necessity of also explaining it to others in this way; explaining it in this way, the necessity of oneself and others obtaining liberation; the necessity of oneself and others cultivating wisdom; the necessity of cutting off the doubts of those who come from the four directions, thus six, one should strive to listen. Thus it is said. The six seekings are: From the Sutra of the Great Extensive Buddha Avatamsaka: Without deceit or trickery, seeking the Dharma from the depths of one's heart; not for oneself, seeking for the benefit of all; obtaining gain and respect

Seeking because one wishes to abandon the afflictions that lead to unwanted states; seeking with unbiased intelligence; seeking without doubt, in order to dispel all uncertainties; seeking without arrogance or desire, in order to perfect the Buddha's teachings. One should seek in such a complete manner. When should one listen with such a vessel? Dharma. The time to listen is when the antidote is strong. One should seek the advice that is given at the right time. That is, when it becomes the antidote to one's own afflictions, listening to this Dharma is the time to deeply integrate it into one's being. The desire to seek meaning, and the time of youth, etc., is the time to listen to a place as vast as the ocean. One must listen at the beginning of naturally entering the Dharma, because one knows the faults and merits of samsara and nirvana, and thus enters into acceptance and rejection. One must listen when taming one's own mind, because it dispels ignorance of anything. One must also listen when constantly practicing, because it enhances virtuous deeds, etc. One must also listen when all knowledge is liberated, because it cuts off the proliferation of doubts. Therefore, now, from the beginning of entering the path until the final accomplishment, it is very important to listen to the Dharma from someone more superior than oneself, because it can turn one's mind towards the practices of the previous great masters, and it can improve one's own realization. Initially, being satisfied with this, clinging to any one thing and practicing in seclusion will not succeed in the end, because one will not notice the deviation and error of the path. People may think that one is practicing the Dharma, but there is no benefit to oneself. The Ornament of the Tree Sutra says: "Son of good family, if you want to quickly realize perfect enlightenment, you should learn to completely seek to listen to the perfection of the ocean of learning." How should one listen? That is, abandoning distractions and disturbances. Starting from offering material and mental offerings of the Dharma, prostrate, sit upright, and join your palms. Listen without distraction, with a respectful attitude. When listening to the Dharma, one should abandon all distractions and disturbances. That is, worldly trade, etc., is a distraction of the three doors, and retinues and possessions are in
