Nala. Because the necessity of the path also culminates there, and because one can give up body and life in one way, it is even more appropriate to consider the possibility of accomplishment to be small. In this regard, the first aspect of pleasing with the three doors here, from the aspect of the body, there are two: what should be relied upon and what should be abandoned. Among them, pleasing what should be relied upon is: with faith and respect without hypocrisy or bias, serving and attending with liberation as the goal. Employing one's own body in the direction of the lama, performing prostrations and circumambulations, and offering incense, flowers, lamps, etc. as external offerings, as well as offering essence and meat ༼༡༽འབའ་ལ་ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) གསང་སྦྱར་༼༢༽ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) etc. as internal offerings, as well as realization, samadhi, wisdom, etc. as secret offerings, whether during residence or after death, on the night of the day on which one transmigrated, offerings should be made, as well as giving to people, etc., acting with respect ༼༣༽remembering kindness, and protecting the lama from obstacles of fire, water, cliffs, and wild animals or enemies, and in the lama's activities, acting as a messenger in different places, and immediately providing whatever service is needed, and spreading a seat in the place of residence, and attending in the place of departure, and sweeping the road, and offering one's own clothes or silk road, etc., and greeting and seeing off with incense, and exchanging greetings, and sweeping near the bedroom, etc., and offering a mandala, and greeting and seeing off with horses and mules, etc. as mounts, and prostrating and requesting blessings when seeing the lama, and standing up and joining palms, etc. In the same way as one treats the lama, if there is a consort, one should also respect her, and attend nearby, and one should also treat those who are cherished in the heart in the same way, because it is taught that "the lama's ༼༡༽relatives are also like the lama." Even if one naturally pleases the lama, if one offends those around him, that will create discord, and ultimately it may cause the lama to be displeased, so one should also remember kindness and win people's hearts. In short, the lama's service should be done by all disciples, but if someone takes on the burden, others do not need to do it, so one should also remember kindness and win people's hearts. Again, in short, just as the king's close attendants need to be taken care of by everyone, the lama's attendants, etc. should not have their minds disturbed.

One should strive to honor the lama. Furthermore, before doing anything, one should ask the lama and then do it. This will indicate what is good and prevent all evil. Especially when teaching the Dharma and giving empowerments, one should ask and do it only if permission is granted. If permission is not granted, it is possible, because it is to prevent the obstacles that are not suitable for doing things for the benefit of others. Even when one sleeps, one's pillow should be pointed in the direction where the lama is. When eating and drinking anything, one should remember the lama and offer the first portion. Whatever one does, one should think, 'Is this what the lama would say?' and then strive to accomplish the purpose with mindfulness. In short, one should always maintain a respectful service to the lama with longing. If we explain these meanings by combining them with the scriptures, it is said in the Samadhi where the Buddha is now visibly present: 'The Bodhisattva should go to the Dharma speaker and do all the services and follow him with the perception of the teacher as the Buddha.' Even for the sake of just listening to the Dharma, one should follow him for as long as one lives. What need is there to mention receiving the scriptures, writing, and meditating? At all times, one should abandon self-cherishing and act according to the mind of that virtuous friend.' It is also said in the Gandavyuha Sutra: 'Again, the merchant's son, Norzang, had faith in the great Bodhicitta and began to exert effort. He followed the virtuous friend, the noble Manjushri, and praised him. Manjushri said: 'Associating with the lama and serving him is the basis for accomplishing the great Bodhicitta. Therefore, do not be weary of relying on and associating with him.' It is also said in the Root Tantra of Supreme Commitment: 'With the strength of body, speech, and mind, whoever serves and honors the lama to the best of their ability, will receive a collection of power and abilities, and blessings will come without obstruction.' Therefore, one should strive to please the lama through careful conduct and respect. One should abandon conflicting behaviors that should be discarded. To please the lama, one should avoid disrespectful and careless behaviors, such as looking askance, frowning, clapping, turning one's back or side to the lama, stretching one's legs and feet, lying down, fighting, playing, flirting, etc. Without respect for the lama, one cannot walk with the holy beings.
