"Gold and underground precious treasure mines." "How the Sugata dwells within the lotus, The all-pervading pure realm reveals the heart of enlightenment. Like the light in the darkness of night, Like a helmsman guiding one near to the shore of liberation. One travels to the source of the deep water treasury, Therefore, one should rely on the virtuous ones. How should one rely on them? The Sutra of the Array of Trees says: A mind like the earth, not weary of bearing all burdens; A mind like a vajra, not divided by discord; A mind like a surrounding mountain, not moved by suffering; A mind like a servant, doing all that is commanded; A mind like a sweeper, completely abandoning pride; A mind like an elephant, bearing heavy burdens; A mind like a dog, not angry with its master; A mind like a boat, not weary of coming and going; A mind like a mother, not weary of afflictions; A mind like a well-trained horse, abandoning disobedience; A mind like a mountain, not moved by circumstances; A mind like a child of an outcaste, without great fame; Without arrogance, like a bull with its horns cut off; Looking upon them with affection, like a beloved child; Pure and (1)complete, like a bridge; Without conceit, like a wandering 8vagrant; Serving with a mind like a young prince, not transgressing the commands of the king of Dharma." In this way, one should serve by not deviating from the teachings. Furthermore, in the Samadhi of the Buddha Manifest Now, it is also said: Virtuous friends are difficult to find, therefore one should show respect and veneration to the Khenpo and Acharya. Whoever one hears the Dharma from, and whoever one asks to write the scriptures, one should definitely generate the perception of them as the teacher, and generate the perception of them as the virtuous friend. For the sake of that Dharma, and for the sake of perfecting complete enlightenment, one should generate great joy and respect for them. Also, in the Sutra of the Ten Dharmas, it says: Having respectfully asked the Dharma holder, generate the perception of light. Generate the perception of them as the teacher. Generate the perception of them as the virtuous friend. Generate the perception of them as saving one from the ocean of existence. Generate the perception of seeking me wandering in samsara.
