One should learn to rely on the lama with respect. As it is said in the Holy Array of Trees Sutra: Praising the qualities and virtues of a virtuous friend, even if spoken extensively for an eon, cannot be exhausted. Therefore, one should always rely on a virtuous friend. Having seen the reasonable cause for relying in this way, one engages in reliance. The advice to seek everywhere for the sake of reliance is: The glorious and holy lama masters, go to the place where they reside, with great faith, respect, and service. From the very beginning, seek to please them. Go to the place where those holy lamas, who possess the qualities mentioned earlier, reside. With faith, respect, and service of body, speech, and mind, make them happy as soon as you meet them. Do not examine or argue like this, and do not be disrespectful or careless, not even a little bit. Because the holy ones are upright and impartial, whatever behavior of the other person they see, they will immediately think that it is not right and become unhappy. The initial connection will be wrong. If it is an ordinary person, it can be reversed later, so first one must learn to please them with great respect. The Array of Trees Sutra says: You should not be tired of seeking a virtuous friend. Having found one, you should serve him without forgetting to practice after him. You should generate the perception of the earth, not being tired of all burdens. You should generate the perception of a servant, listening to all instructions. Furthermore, when seeking the practice of enlightenment, seeking a virtuous friend is the method. Therefore, ask others extensively where they reside, and also go to different places to investigate. No matter what difficulties arise, do not retreat from seeking. This will gather the ocean of merit and wisdom, and save you from sin and non-virtue. The Moon Lamp Sutra says: If you want to quickly attain unsurpassed enlightenment, you must generate the mind of enlightenment from great compassion, generate diligence, and without regard for body and life, constantly seek the virtuous friend who teaches the holy Dharma, and serve and respect him without deceit or deception.

should be done. In this way, if one seeks and serves without being completely weary, one will obtain the Dharma of manifest enlightenment in bliss. Also, in the Sutra Requested by the Son of No Craving, it is said: "For the sake of seeking a virtuous friend, one should not be stingy with even body and life. One should not hold onto various things, one should not be attached to wealth, one should not desire gain and respect. One should abandon all of that and seek. Furthermore, not regarding body and life, not seeking the enjoyments of existence, realizing all dharmas as emptiness, stabilizing the aspiration for omniscience, observing the nature of the realm of Dharma, desiring to surpass all existence, relying on the sky of the realm of Dharma without a place, accomplishing the aspirations of all Bodhisattvas, purifying all Buddha-fields, the wisdom of Bodhisattvas is without obscuration, extremely purified, one reveres and serves the Lama and completely seeks." Also, in the Flower Ornament Sutra, it is said: "Those Bodhisattvas who are completely taken by virtuous friends do not fall into evil destinies, they do not comprehend what is not to be done, they turn back from the place of carelessness, they are liberated from the city of Samsara, they do not violate the precepts of Bodhisattvas, they are manifestly superior to all the world, they are difficult to be overcome by karma and afflictions. Sons of lineage, therefore, in this way, by constantly keeping in mind without interruption, one should go to the presence of virtuous friends." Also, in the Four Dharmas Sutra, it is said: "Monks, a Bodhisattva does not completely abandon a virtuous friend even for the sake of life." Also, in the Bodhisattva Pratimoksha, it is said: "For the Khenpo and Acharya, there is no precious thing that one does not completely abandon with respect, no service to the body that one does not do, no following with the feet, no delight in the work of speech." Also, in the Heap of Rice Sprouts Sutra, it is said: "The Blessed One, when accumulating merit for three countless eons, in order to seek the virtuous friend who teaches the six-syllable Vajra speech (Tibetan: གསུང་རྡོ་རྗེ་འབྲུ་དྲུག་,Sanskrit Devanagari: ,Sanskrit Romanization: , Literal meaning: Six Syllable Vajra Speech), said that he had gone to all the realms of the world until his feet were worn down to his hips." Also, in the Eight Thousand Verse Sutra, it is said:
