Dro dog nges la (4). There is no one more supreme than the Lama, and no one equal to him, so he should be relied upon as a field of merit. In the Gongdü it says: "Therefore, to offer to a thousand Buddhas for a thousand kalpas is not as good as applying one drop of sandalwood to each pore of the Lama's hair; even a thousand drops cannot compare." And in the Kuntu Khajor Gyü it says: "That which is called the mind of all wisdom is the supreme teacher of all victors. Since it bestows various siddhis, the intelligent should always make offerings. Why? The merit of offering to all the Buddhas of the ten directions and to the Bodhichitta is not as great as offering to one pore of the teacher's hair. Therefore, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas look upon those who make offerings to the teacher." And in the Yeshe Gyatso Gyü it says: "Whoever is a capable and fortunate person in the Lama's work, it is more important than prostrating to all the Buddhas of the three times for six million kotis of kalpas." And in the Dorje Meche Gyü it says: "If one offers gold and so on to the Lama himself and his retinue, and to his attendants and servants, the rain of merit from countless prostrations and offerings to countless hundreds of thousands of principal figures and retinues in countless Buddhafields that cannot be expressed is not enough to match it." And in the Arya Tree Array Sutra it also says: "All the practices of Bodhisattvas depend on spiritual friends. All the doors of aspiration also arise from them. All roots of virtue are also generated by them. All accumulations of merit and wisdom are also accomplished by them. All doors of Dharma are also illuminated by them. All completely pure paths also arise from them. They are the root of all completely pure higher intentions. All teachings on generating the mind of enlightenment are also generated from them. All appearances of dharanis and eloquence are also shown by them. All treasuries of completely pure doors are completely held by them. All appearances of wisdom are generated by them. All special aspirations are in their hands." And in the Bodhisattva Pitaka it also says: "In order to take essence from a body without essence, one should please the Lama."

Even if there is nothing, offer just a handful of water. By this, immeasurable roots of virtue will also increase. If you practice according to the guru's instructions, you will also obtain the four dharmas that elevate you. You will also obtain the four abandonments. You will also obtain the four dharmas that cannot be overcome by others. You will also obtain the four invisible dharmas. You will also obtain the five immeasurable dharmas. Furthermore, just as medicinal herbs rely on the snowy mountains, all roots of virtue will also increase. Just as the great ocean becomes a vessel for water, you will also become a vessel for all qualities and dharmas. Just as the great ocean becomes a source of jewels, you will also become a source of all qualities. Just as gold is completely refined by the heat of fire, the mind of enlightenment will also be completely refined. Just as Mount Meru rises above the ocean, you will also rise above all worlds. Just as water does not cling to a lotus, you will also not be stained by the dharmas of the world. Just as the orb of the sun and moon shines throughout the four continents, you will also illuminate the realm of dharma. And so on, it is extensively taught. Thus, even by remembering the guru who possesses supreme qualities and meditating in yoga for a short time, you will obtain immeasurable merit. As it is said in the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Tantra: "Whoever meditates on the guru as the deity of desire, on the crown of their head, merely placing thousands of mandalas of Buddhas in the palm of their hand and circumambulating the three thousand great thousand worlds, dissolving them into their heart a hundred thousand times, cannot withstand hundreds of thousands of disasters and rains. Therefore, always remember, consider the glorious guru as the ornament of the wheel on the crown of your head." And so on. Towards the guru, physically prostrating and circumambulating, etc., verbally making offerings and praises, etc., mentally having faith and respect, etc., and also the messengers sent by the guru to other places, perfectly accomplishing their tasks, serving and attending, handling affairs, even making and lifting things, etc., all things done according to the guru's instructions, all desires will be fulfilled in this life, and in the future, you will be reborn in the pure lands adorned by the emanation body, such as Sukhavati and Abhirati, these are the temporary benefits.
