O! Then in this Jambudvipa, there became four castes. At that time, there was a person with a good nature." "Everyone respected him and called him king. The first king who was respected by many appeared. Then, because it was not right to steal good or bad rice fields, punishments were established, and the evil deeds of transporting rice out and bringing it in, etc., were done by those who were born evil." "Those who were born good lived peacefully, and because it was reasonable for us to gather together, we should appoint one person as leader." After deliberation, they chose one person from among them who was of good race and character and of excellent appearance as king, and thus there appeared the one called king who was respected by many. Such a race and others gathered together, and the race of the one called king, the highest of the respected ones, appeared. According to some texts, when the rice fields were about to be exhausted, when they were divided separately, a person of good nature acted as the divider. Because everyone was satisfied with the reduction of his own share, they said, "You are fit to be the king of all of us." It is said that they collected from their respective ears of rice and appointed him. Among those ordinary people, some went out from their homes." "They were called Brahmins, practicing purity." "Some lived at home, were wealthy, and respected their parents." "Those people were also called Vaishyas." Some people turned their hearts outward from their homes and took great care of cleanliness, and these people were called Brahmins. Those belonging to their lineage are called the Brahmin caste. Those who live at home and mainly worship their parents with wealth are called Vaishyas." "Those belonging to their lineage are called the Vaishya caste." "Among those beings, some who act against the Dharma are called commoners." "The four castes arose from there." "Those who do not regard their father as father, do not regard their mother as mother, and do not regard the elders of the race as elders, do not respect them, and mainly engage in evil deeds such as stealing and adultery, and act badly, these people are called commoners or Chandalas." If one is defiled by racial mixing, or defiled by racial defects, or defiled by suddenly acting in such a way, then whether one is a Kshatriya, Brahmin, or Vaishya, one will lose one's status.
