It is because the aspirations and conditions, as well as the shadows of constellations, are the same. The commentary on the *Fifty Verses on the Spiritual Teacher* says that the reason for the waxing and waning of the moon is: when it is close to the sun, the side that is diminished by its own constellation's shadow appears to be waxing. As the *Abhidharmakosha* says, "From being close to the sun, it is diminished by its own shadow." That is the meaning. Alternatively, one side is crystal, and the other is beryl. Therefore, during the waxing period, the crystal becomes clearer downwards, while the beryl becomes dimmer. At the fifteenth, it is completely reversed. From the sixteenth, during the waning period, the beryl becomes larger downwards, and when it is empty, the beryl ball appears below, blending with the color of the sky and becoming invisible. Both of these explanations are from the scriptures. When the sun and moon rise, the planets and stars also rise with them, and moments, mornings, afternoons, days, nights, days, months, years, and other times arise. Then, in order, come earth essence, sprouts, and huskless rice. At that time, those who ate a lot had bad complexions, and those who ate little had good complexions, so there were various colors. They mocked and disparaged the bad ones, and praised and were arrogant towards the good ones, so they became jealous. Because arrogance and jealousy manifested, the previous earth essence disappeared. Those beings gathered together and said, "Alas, alas, the earth essence has disappeared," and they grieved. After that, an earth essence appeared that was red like the Donga flower, and tasted like honey, which they enjoyed for a long time. When it also disappeared due to arrogance, they still grieved as before. After that, sprouts appeared that were yellow like the Katam Puka flower, which they ate and stayed with for a long time. If they cooked it inside, it would grow inside; if they cooked it outside, it would grow outside, so the cooking was invisible. After it disappeared as before, they grieved. After that, the rice Salu, which grew naturally without being plowed or sown, was without husks and clean. If they cooked it inside, it would grow outside; if they cooked it outside, it would grow inside, and they enjoyed it for a long time. In this way, because of the coarse food, the passages for excrement and urine, and the male and female reproductive organs, also manifested well, so desire arose from intercourse and the union of sexual organs. Because of shame, grass huts appeared. These and above are the Age of Perfection.

No! Coarse food made the body strong, and the passages for urination and defecation, as well as the male and female sexual organs, became clearly visible. To conceal these, people used cotton and wool woven into lower garments and clothing. At that time, affection arose for one another, and the desire to embrace arose. The two sexual organs joined together to engage in sexual activity, thereby possessing sentient beings, and being born from the womb. When engaging in sexual activity in this way, others developed unpleasant feelings and threw mud and stones, and spoke ill, giving rise to feelings of shame. They supported themselves with wood and stones, building huts, which were therefore called houses of shame. At that time, nectar-like rain fell from the sky, and to protect against moisture, they covered the top with thatch, so the earliest houses were thatched huts. After that, they harvested as much rice as needed from the rice fields. One lazy person stored away even tomorrow's share tonight, and everyone imitated him. Before that, it was the first kalpa, and they naturally practiced the ten virtues, it was the age of perfection. After a long time, people said: From then on, because of lazy storage, rice grew husks, and traces of harvesting also appeared. Because they divided separately, they stole from each other. Because of the fault of storage, those rice grains grew husks, and traces of harvesting also appeared, so they piled up the rice. They gathered together and said: Alas, the essence of the earth that first appeared to us, the wish-fulfilling cow, the wish-fulfilling tree, the oil of the earth, the garden of sprouts, and the uncultivated crops, have also disappeared because of storage and division, so this should be piled up. The meaning of piling up is not to distribute, but to be common property. At that time, a person of bad nature said, this rice field belongs to me, and divided it in this way. Therefore, they competed jealously, and everyone divided it, and because of being busy, arrogance arose. I won, I lost, arrogance and jealousy arose. After that, bad rice did not grow in fields with little merit, and good rice grew in large fields, and because the bad fields did not mature, they stole and begged from the good fields.
