Those formed from tiny dust particles appeared in various body sizes and colors, more beautiful and pleasing to the eye than uniformity. The light was clear up to seven cubits (about 3.5 meters). Wherever they thought of going, the wind of karma would carry them through the sky. They ate the essence that came as food. Because they had no clothes, they did not suffer the cold and heat of nakedness. With the power of being without clothes, there were bathing ponds to wash away the dirt that accumulated on their bodies. They bathed and cleansed themselves in places that were slow, gentle, and comfortable to the touch, naturally abiding in the ten virtues. However, due to past karma, lifespan gradually decreased, and the light of their bodies also became weaker. From that time on, when their lifespan reached six million six hundred thousand years, the light diminished, appearing the length of an arrow, and warmth and moisture arose. Wish-fulfilling cows and intelligent, excellent horses appeared. During this period, among the elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, the heat of fire warmed them, and the cold of water moistened them, thus they arose from warmth and moisture. From that time on, when their lifespan reached one hundred thousand years, from the wish-fulfilling cow, whenever they desired, milk like nectar would appear, becoming a factor in nourishing their bodies. When they wanted to go somewhere, the intelligent horse would take them wherever they wanted to go. Like this, each person's desires and enjoyments arose simultaneously with each person's birth. Some of them arose from the land, the water's edge, and the shade of trees. Afterwards, people became distracted by desires, and their lifespan and wealth gradually decreased. Again, desires arose from the wish-fulfilling tree. They ate the fruits of the tree and wore the leaves as clothes. They felt happy when they saw and touched each other. When their lifespan reached ninety thousand years, their wealth and merit decreased compared to before. Each time a person was born, a tree also grew. The fruits of that tree were rich in fragrance and taste, and they could be eaten as food, and the leaves could be worn as clothes. The sexual organs of men and women had not yet appeared, and when they saw each other, the only thing that arose from joy was the desire to look, only the latent habit of ignorance manifested. This was the time when the latent habit of desire was close to actually manifesting. Afterwards, the sexual organs of men and women began to appear, and when they saw and touched each other, desire arose. Cutting down trees caused the wish-fulfilling trees to disappear. After a long time, one hundred and fifty years passed since before, and joy arose from seeing each other, and they gathered and lived in places of play. From then on, for one hundred and fifty years, more happiness arose than before, thoughts, discrimination, and counting.

After that, after five hundred years had passed, lifespan and merit also gradually decreased. After the earth was formed in the previous kalpa, a stream of water flowed down, filling the Rola Lake and all the continents. What formed on top of them like milk curds was called the essence of the earth. It was like the color of fresh butter and had a taste like honey. They took it with their fingers and tasted it, and became greedy and ate it as food. The soft cotton that came from the trees was worn as clothing. At that time, greed that was satisfied by laughing at each other also arose, and beings also multiplied greatly. After that, due to the coarse food, the light diminished, and due to the power of ignorance, darkness arose. Due to common karma, the sun, moon, and stars appeared. Day and night and other seasons existed. Due to those material foods, the body became hard and heavy. Due to the cause of the arising of afflictions, the light diminished and darkness appeared in this world. This was the time when dormant ignorance actually manifested. In this way, darkness appeared in the world, and the appearance of the sun and moon is a natural law. Therefore, due to the common merit of all beings, the orb of the sun rose in the sky. Thinking that this was the light of the gods, they named it "day" and called it the sun. When it set, it was named "night." After that, the moon rose, and they said that this was also its companion, so they called it the moon. When the moon rose, it was very cool, so it became cold. They all said it was too cool, so it diminished. They also said, "Appear!" so it increased. The first day of the waxing and waning moon became increasing and decreasing. Some teachers think that it is like the increase and decrease of the shadow of an eclipse. Some think that it is because the face is turned upside down. These two views are not contradictory, because the first beings all unanimously proclaimed those things.
