In any manifestation, the illusion and impossibility that are not caused by causes and conditions are not the same. Regarding the impossibility of the power of mantras, it is asserted that even reciting mantras will not produce power, because it is the language of a person, and the language of a person is false. If it is said that because it is the language of the Vedas, it can produce power, then "it is refuted by direct perception." In reality, the language spoken by a person is clearly not the language of the Vedas, because it is impermanent. The sound of the Vedas is considered to be constant, so it would fall into contradiction. It cannot be a true meaning, because it is seen that the meaning of what is said is contradictory, and even if the sound is produced, there is no one who can interpret the meaning, just like the sound of water and wind. The refutation of the argument is that words cannot express meaning, because the connection between the sound of words and the silence of meaning is not established, and words will perish in successive moments, and each individual letter has no meaning, and all words do not go beyond individual letters. If so, then what is the speaking and listening that you are doing? In illusion, it appears that way, but in reality, there is no desire to speak and listen, as Nagarjuna said in his praise of the Buddha's speech: "All objects of focus are completely pacified, all elaborations are calmed, the Buddhas have never, in any place, nor to anyone, taught any Dharma." Thus it is said. The refutation of what is said has four types: offerings and gifts, history, secrets, and refutation of similar types. In the first type, there are three refutations: offerings, gifts, and fire offerings. Among them, the refutation of offerings has three aspects: it is unreasonable for gods to like or dislike. If a god likes the killing of livestock, then that god cannot be a place of offering, because he has attachment and aversion, like a ghost. If he dislikes it, then no benefit will arise, because an unpleasant thing has been done. A god without a basis is unreasonable. A sacrificer who commits sinful deeds cannot lead those with livestock to a higher realm, because the god has no power. Because when examined in terms of time and moment, the god is not established, so the god's guidance is not established. Therefore, liberation and higher realms depend entirely on one's own virtue, as it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Liberation depends only on oneself, and in this, there is no other who can help." Thus it is said.

If someone says that it is the same for wanting to do good with the property left behind by others after their death. But that is not the case, because it is using his own property, reciting mantras to generate benefits, and generating benefits through pure thoughts, which is different from sacrifices without compassion. It is also said in the Outer Scripture that: "From Brahma to hell, all sentient beings should cherish life. If you kill the lives of other sentient beings, how can you obtain happiness? All beings desire happiness, and the world is full of suffering. If you do much harm to beings, how can it become the cause of happiness?" Therefore, this is also contrary to your own teachings. If someone says that these words are directed at times other than sacrifices, it is the same. If it is sinful at other times, then it cannot become virtuous at the time of sacrifice. If it is inferred that one should use oneself to make sacrifices, then because humans are happier than hundreds of thousands of gods, in order to quickly obtain that happiness, one should kill oneself to make sacrifices. It is said in the Jataka Tales: "Because of evil deeds, the mind has not changed, and the path of doing good has not been determined. Even if livestock are killed for sacrifices, how can we, who have no foundation, ascend to the heavens? If killing for sacrifice can lead to heaven, then the Brahmin himself should become livestock." There is a fault in this. It is said in the Satipatthana Sutta: "If it is said that killing can lead to heaven, then one will fall into the great burning hell. If one kills livestock to make sacrifices, then one will fall into the great dark hell. If one kills people for sacrifices, then one will fall into the iron pot hell." The following is a refutation of generosity. From the two aspects of nature and convention, there are three general refutations of nature: constant and impermanent cannot be given, touching and not touching cannot be given, and coarse and subtle cannot be given. The first is: no one can give anything to anyone, because constant things cannot be moved, so they cannot be transferred from one hand to another, and impermanent things perish before reaching the hand. The second is: touching has already been refuted, and not touching cannot produce benefits, just like the beggar's mouth and food do not touch, so hunger cannot be relieved. The third is: coarse things cannot be given, just like the general refutation. Subtle things cannot be given, because indivisible dust is
