First, in proving that a continent has limbs, a limb like a snow mountain is not established, because it does not exist like a dust particle. Impermanence is also not established, because if analyzed, the component parts of one and many and the entity with component parts are not established. That dust particles are permanent while gross things are impermanent is also not established, because it is impossible for a single object to have both permanent and impermanent aspects at the same time. In terms of refuting qualities, there are seven aspects: number, volume, conjunction, difference, other, non-other, and refuting the qualities of space. In the first aspect, there are three things that are not established: dependence, substance, and agent. Dependence is when one and nine are established as many and few, which are mutually dependent. Since the place of dependence and the object of dependence are not established, number is not established. Substance is not established because numbers such as one and one hundred are each independent, so they cannot be one. If each independent entity is analyzed, it is also not established, so substance is not established. Agent is not established because the agent of one khal comes from one bre. If the component parts of one bre and one grain of barley are analyzed, they will disappear, so number is not established. The Prajnaparamita Sutra says, "In suchness, there is no such thing as one," and so on. It is not permissible to say that it does not exist in suchness but exists in conventional terms, because the Naga King (Nagarjuna) said, "From the conventional, there is no separate way to see the ultimate truth, and from the ultimate truth, there is no separate way to see the conventional." Therefore, in conventional terms, things and non-things are not established. It is believed that the analysis of things and non-things by conceptualists is wrong, because for children who cling to things, it is like clinging to the illusion of hair and the moon in water as being real and considering them to be substances. In conventional terms, although they cling to completely distinguishing between name and meaning and cling to self, for those who know reality, mountains and so on, although they do not exist like the moon in water and the illusion of hair, they appear clearly. It is not that they appear as things and non-things, because the tenets fabricated by the mind regarding name and meaning are completely pacified. There are three aspects to refuting volume. Substance is not established because the substance of the size of a mountain's bulge is not established, because it is small compared to a mountain larger than it, so the establishment of a large substance disappears. Also, a small substance is not established, because it is large compared to a small one. Size is not established because of things.

Anything minute, since there is nothing smaller than a coarse dust particle, size cannot be established. Moreover, since it depends on other sizes, size cannot become a whole, as has been explained before. Similarly, needles and spears also have no length, as previously stated. Equality cannot be established because of mutual dependence. In the Mother Sutra, it says, "Do not make form vast, do not make it small, do not make it coarse, do not make it subtle." There are five refutations of contact: the permanent and impermanent cannot contact, self and other cannot contact, part and partless cannot contact, interval and non-interval cannot contact, and there is no already contacted. The first is that the permanent cannot contact, because they either always contact or never contact. The impermanent also cannot contact, because one arises when the other ceases. Aggregates also cannot contact, because the permanent and impermanent are contradictory in nature. The second is that self and self cannot contact, because there are no two, the contacter and the contacted, just as one palm cannot be both the contacter and the contacted. Other also cannot contact, because different times are not permissible, because one exists when the other does not. The contact of both aggregates is also impossible, because self and other are contradictory in nature. Simultaneous times also cannot contact, because one thing cannot have two. Different things also cannot contact, like the warmth of summer and the cold touch of winter. The Root Wisdom says, "It itself does not contact itself, nor does another contact another, the contacting and contact, and the contacter also do not exist." The third is that the partless cannot contact, because they are partless, if partless dust particles contact, then because there is a surface, it would become partful. In the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds, it says, "Contact and the partless, if you see them, please show them." The partful also cannot contact, because when the outer parts contact, the inner parts are completely not contacting. As it says, "Dust particles do not enter dust particles, that is equal without space. Without entering there is no mixing, and without mixing there is no contact." Just as a full bre of stones cannot contain a full bre of parts, so there is no contact. The fourth is, when meat and knife contact, is there an interval or no interval? If there is an interval, is the interval the knife? Is it the meat? Or is it neither?
