Da. "Beating, smashing, chopping, and grinding into powder." "Cooking, piercing, and wrapping with burning iron plates. Outside in the four directions are sixteen neighbors. Decayed mud and endless rivers, plains of hair-razors and forests of sword-leaf trees, surrounded by Sala trees, hell beings experience various sufferings. The lifespan of the reviving hell and the other six is equal to the days and nights of the desire realm gods, and they can live for that many years. The extremely hot hell can live for half a intermediate kalpa." "The uninterrupted hell is said to last for one intermediate kalpa. Eight kinds of sentient beings whose bodies are extremely stiffened by snow and blizzards are: those with blisters and those with burst blisters, Achu heat and Kyihu So Thams, those cracked like lotuses, blue lotuses, and large lotuses. Exhausted by the cold, suffering is endless. The lifespan is like grinding a hundred khals of sesame seeds, and exhausting them by taking out one sesame seed every hundred years. The lifespan of those with blisters is reduced by twenty. Hungry ghosts suffer from hunger and thirst. Those with external obscurations dry up even when they see good things. Those with internal obscurations have their hearts and livers burning like fire, and those with common obscurations crave food and drink. They cannot hear the sound of water even in twelve years. It appears as being harmed and protected by others. The lifespan is a hundred human years for a hungry ghost day." "They have to suffer for five hundred years. For animals, they also eat each other, and suffer from harm, exploitation, killing, and cutting. Lifespan is uncertain, there are kalpas, etc. For people, there is no time for happiness, birth, old age, sickness, death, enemies, and harm are numerous. Separation from friends, poverty due to desire, and experiencing unwanted things. Desires cannot be fulfilled, suffering from heat, cold, fatigue, repaying kindness with harm, and not being grateful. Retinue acting wrongly, meaningless jealousy, not praising, meaningless slander, immeasurable. For the Asuras, there is also anger and fighting, unwanted events falling on them, and death, etc. They have many kinds of suffering and no happiness. For the gods, there is also death, transference, falling, etc." "The ocean of suffering is boundless and immeasurable. Thus, samsara is like a pit of fire, there is no time for happiness, like a water bucket going up and down. From one to another, without beginning or end, wise people generate joy for liberation. Liberation from such meaningless samsara.

The supreme of the excellent is Nirvana, the nectar of peace and coolness is unsurpassed. It is constant, stable, unchanging, and free from elaboration. Qualities, self-nature, complete body, without old age or death. Free from obscurations, without turbidity, and the source of benefit and happiness. To that which has become the refuge and companion of beings, the wise should strive to proceed. From the Great Vehicle's instruction manual, the treatise "The Wish-Fulfilling Treasure," the seventeenth chapter on contemplating samsara as suffering and Nirvana as bliss. When the things to be contemplated are thus fully completed, one should generate wisdom born of meditation in one's own mind-stream. Among the three paths that definitely arise from the three vehicles, here one enters into the meaning of the supreme essence. Among these, first, it is most important to know the nature of reality. Although there are many aspects due to the power of the vehicles, the definitive essence, the truth, is inseparable. It is the secret treasury of the Buddhas. Its nature is clear light wisdom, primordially peaceful, free from elaboration, and self. Like the sun in the sky, it is spontaneously accomplished and uncompounded. Because it is naturally pure and greatly primordial, appearance and emptiness are inseparable, and there is no establishment, removal, coming, or going. Because conventionality is completely cut off and transcends the realm of distinctions, all elaboration is pacified because it transcends the two truths that are examined. Truth is inseparable, there is no establishment or non-establishment. Because appearance and emptiness are inseparable in the realm of being, that truth is also said to be inseparable. If one distinguishes well by means of the two truths of terminology, then all the phenomena of samsara, which are deceptive appearances, are conventional truths because they are untrue and deceptive. The profound, peaceful, and clear light of the Dharma of Nirvana, the unchanging nature, is considered the ultimate truth. This conventionality, this manifold appearance, is like an illusion, a water moon, an emanation, or a reflection. Whatever appearance is without self-nature, if examined very closely, has no real basis. It is like space, empty and with its characteristics cut off. If not examined, it is delightful like various illusions. It arises from the interdependent origination of habitual confusion, like the appearance of a Datura. Thus, because it is empty in nature and without self, that itself is its nature. What is called ultimate is the appearance part, which is conventional. Because there is no establishment of arising, etc., from the time of appearance, the self-nature is that, so the truth is inseparable. Its self-nature is pure from the beginning.
