By A-tsal Dungnyen and others. Practice the sacred Dharma without any laziness." "Like guests in a market, like trees by the riverbank, like thunder and clouds, like the movement of the sun and moon, contemplate the impermanent changes and the swift approach of death. At the time of death, the best companions are the Three Jewels and virtuous deeds. Rely on the holy ones and accomplish the essential meaning. In all activities, remember death. The extent of habituation is to see all compounded things as perishable. The diligent abandon fear and the affairs of this life." "Do not remain idle even for a moment. Generate renunciation and weariness, and shorten mental distractions. Its benefits are extremely vast. Naturally abandon the faults of samsara and possess qualities. Liberate from the clinging to permanence, and pacify the attachment and aversion to enemies and friends." "Strive diligently in virtue, and know that this life is illusory. Perfect the two accumulations, be seen by the famous gods, and pass away peacefully, going to the higher realms. Quickly attain the state of immortal nectar. From the Great Vehicle's quintessential teachings, the Treatise on the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury, the fourteenth chapter on contemplating the impermanence of life is complete." "Thus, following the nature of understanding impermanence, the one thing to cherish is to generate the army of faith. Faith of aspiration distinguishes between cause and effect, faith of admiration deeply inclines the mind towards the supreme object, faith of respect possesses supreme mindfulness, faith of purity thoroughly purifies the mind of qualities, faith of conviction exhausts doubts about the Dharma, faith of certainty generates increasing faith in the supreme Dharma of hearing, thinking, and meditating. The nature of faith is like good earth, the basis of all Dharmas, which increases virtuous qualities. Faith is like a ship, which crosses the river of existence, like an escort, which protects from demons and afflictions, like a vehicle, which leads to the island of liberation, like a wish-fulfilling jewel king, which accomplishes all desires." "Like a hero, it subdues sins. It is the supreme wealth of the holy ones who accumulate merit. Those without fortune have no faith at all. Its faults are extremely vast. Like a stone sunk in the ocean, it is far from the shore of liberation. Like a broken boat, there is no time to be liberated from samsara. Like a beggar with a severed hand, there is no share of virtue. Like a burnt seed, there is no sprout of enlightenment. Like a blind person, there is no appearance of the form of Dharma. Like being trapped in a whirlpool, one wanders constantly in samsara. White Dharma faith is

The six places of arising are: The faith of desire arises from being weary of existence; the faith of delight arises from being weary of bad friends; the faith of reverence arises from being weary of this life; the faith of purity arises from pure places; the faith of trust arises from hearing about cause and effect; the faith of certainty arises from hearing and thinking. Relying on causes, it can also be further increased: relying on holy people, virtuous friends, reading sutras and tantras; contemplating death, trusting in karma and its results; hearing, thinking, and meditating with more diligence than before, from this, faith will surely increase. The causes of decline are observing the faults of the lama, associating with ordinary people, enjoying wealth as one pleases, laziness and idleness, many worldly affairs, these and so on are non-Buddhist activities, it is said that the demon blesses, and faith will decline. When arising from conditions, it arises: seeing the changes of birth and death, being harmed by diseases and evil spirits, suffering befalling, hearing the Dharma, hearing the biographies of predecessors, seeing the Jataka tales. When these arise from conditions, continue to increase, and constantly cultivate the supreme faith. The measure is to be weary of existence, to respect the Three Jewels, to seek hearing and thinking, to cherish the three trainings, to be happy to do good, to be very careful to avoid evil, and to consider that one has attained higher qualities. If faith is not generated by the method of seeking, then goodness will not be achieved, and one will wander in samsara forever. Therefore, no matter what one relies on, one should strive to generate faith. Knowing the faults of faith and abandoning them, there is no other way than to generate faith in the presence of holy people. It increases and decreases slightly due to conditions, eliminating bad conditions, there is no faith at all. Having many thoughts, one cannot persist in doing anything, uncertain, acting as one pleases, without reliance, rash, being diverted by small conditions, abandoning these six, and constantly relying. First, for the objects of faith that have been well examined, from now on they will not change, like Mount Meru, without increase or decrease, like the sun, sky, ocean, without slackness or tension, like a bowstring, without weariness or fatigue, like a bridge, without interruption, like the flow of a great river, having softness and resilience, like silk, not being taken away by conditions, relying like the sky. The benefits of faith are immeasurable, all white dharmas
