Considering this, (the Buddha) showed that all dharmas are emptiness. This is what is said in the Nirvana Sutra. I said that in the Prajnaparamita, showing that all dharmas are emptiness, is for the benefit of those Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who are newly entering the Mahayana, as well as other non-Buddhists, who are attached to things, view them as self, and are bound by the grasping of concepts. In reality, all dharmas are naturally luminous, and one should recognize that as the meaning of Suchness, the nature of spontaneous accomplishment. This is the point that is being made. If one does not understand that the nature of reality is naturally pure and spontaneously accomplished, then even if one meditates on the antidotes to the four perversions—impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and impurity—one will not be able to attain liberation through that path, because one has not realized the true meaning. Again, it says in the same text: Monks, for example, when the time of Soka arrives, people tie bathing cloths and play in the water with their own ornaments and things they use. Therefore, there, a jewel, a beryl, is placed in the water. Then, for the sake of the beryl, they all put down their ornaments and enter the water. Then, the gravel or tiles that are there, they think are jewels and grab them, thinking, 'I have found a jewel.' After coming out, when they look at the edge of the pond, they strongly think that this is a jewel. The water of the pond also appears like the light of a jewel. Seeing the water appearing like that, they exclaim, 'Emaho!,' and strongly think that it is a jewel. Then, there, someone who is skilled in means and has a kind heart, truly finds that jewel. Monks, similarly, you who do not know the true nature of the Dharma like a jewel, meditating and repeatedly meditating, abiding in the grasping that everything is impermanent, everything is suffering, everything is selfless, and everything is impure, all those are meaningless. Monks, therefore, just like taking the gravel and tiles that are in the pond, do not change, be skilled in means. Thus it is said. The ultimate truth is

If one does not understand the nature of emptiness and thinks that emptiness is the absence of anything, that is falling into nihilism, which is similar to the views of non-Buddhists, and therefore should be condemned. The Ratnakuta Sutra says, "O Light Protector, it is easy for those who view self as large as Mount Meru. But it is not so for those with pride who view emptiness." Also, as the Four Hundred Stanzas says, "If emptiness is viewed incorrectly, those with little wisdom will be destroyed. Just as grasping a snake incorrectly, or performing a mantra incorrectly." It is like that. This itself, with the way of speaking in a definitive sense and the benefits it possesses, is: it is far more excellent than the intermediate teachings that teach all phenomena as empty. In the end, it is spoken of as the definitive meaning of primordially self-arisen and luminous. Therefore, those with sharp faculties among the disciples realize it. Because there is no discouragement, they generate a great mind towards enlightenment and strive. Seeing all sentient beings as having the essence of enlightenment, they are respectful and have no arrogance towards themselves. Because they realize the true nature without perversion, vast wisdom increases and there are no wrong views. Seeing themselves and sentient beings as equal, love arises. Entering into seeing the truth of the cessation of imputation and depreciation, they are free from the extreme of slandering emptiness. In terms of quickly attaining Buddhahood, the Uttaratantra Shastra says, "Like clouds, dreams, and illusions, here and there, all knowable things are completely empty in every way." Having said that, it also says here that the Victorious Ones say to sentient beings, "There is the Buddha-nature," why is that? It is to abandon discouragement, contempt for inferior beings, not grasping the correct view, and slandering the correct Dharma, the five faults that we possess. It is spoken to abandon those faults. It also says, "Like this, that is from hearing, generating joy and respect like a teacher, generating wisdom, prajna, and great love. In order to generate the five dharmas, for that, there is no fault, viewing it as equal. Without faults, possessing qualities, from the love of oneself and sentient beings being equal, Buddhahood is quickly attained." Thus it is said. This place is for creating immeasurable roots of virtue, taming the faculties, and those who are seized by the noble virtuous friend should understand the general meaning with faith. It is like this, and it is not the conduct of ordinary individuals, those of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer lineage, and those who are attached to the extreme of emptiness.
