The key point is to abide in samadhi. These are also the key points for increasing the clarity of light above, below, and in all directions. In addition, learn the key points of speech: abiding, stabilizing, and reciting, among the four. The first is to speak less and less each day. The second is not to mix words with others. The third is not to speak even when reciting scriptures. The fourth is to realize the ground of sound without departing from the state of not speaking anything. Second, measuring the three abidings: By practicing in this way, as a sign that the profound path has manifested, when external appearances abide, bad conditions arise as helpers. When the illusory body abides internally, one is free from the activities of delusion. When the secret wind-mind abides, it is impossible for conceptual thoughts to arise. At these times, the measure is taken by dreams, and two signs appear in the body and speech. For those with great diligence, dreams cease completely. For those of medium diligence, dreams are remembered. Even for the lowest, as a sign that bad thoughts have subsided, all dreams transform into good habits. When signs appear in the body and speech, at the time of the manifestation of reality, the body is like a frog placed in a wooden bowl, unmoving from its posture. Speech is like a mute, unwilling to speak. The mind is like a dakini caught in a net, although thoughts scatter, one does not depart from the state of awareness in which they self-vanish and self-liberate. At the time of increasing experience, the body is like a person afflicted by illness, freed from the charm of bathing and ornaments. Speech is like the rambling of a madman, speaking whatever comes to mind without followers or commitments. The mind is like being poisoned by medicine, abiding in a state of unconsciousness and non-conceptualization. At the time when awareness reaches its limit, the body is like an elephant sinking in mud, unobstructed by any mountains or rocks, completely transparent. Speech is like the child in a clay pot, whatever is spoken in sweet tones spontaneously arises as words of Dharma. The mind is like a plague that has been cured, the habits of whatever good or bad thoughts arise no longer stir in the mind. At the time when reality is exhausted, the body is like a corpse in a charnel ground, even if a killer appears, fear and terror do not arise. Speech is like an echo in a valley, whatever is said is without substance, so one repeats after others. The mind is like a mist dissolving, whatever arises self-vanishes in an instant into the realm of reality, transcending the thoughts of scattering and gathering. Third, pegging down the three attainments: After that, on external appearances,

I attain freedom, liberated in the realm of appearances. Inner illusory body attains freedom, the gross body is liberated into luminosity. Secret winds and awareness attain freedom, erroneous thoughts naturally cease. Fourth, the instruction on the degree of liberation of the four confidences is: Upwardly, even when speaking of the qualities of the Buddha, there is no hope of attainment or doubt of non-attainment, because self-awareness has already taken the ground of Buddhahood. Downwardly, even when speaking of the suffering of samsara, there is no doubt of samsara or hope of non-samsara, because awareness is liberated from erroneous thoughts and concepts. Thus, entering into the actual practice, if we consider liberation in this life, then the highest diligence is three years and one month. The intermediate is four years, five months, and six days. The lowest is seven years and eleven months, then the body of flesh and blood is liberated into luminosity, and enlightenment is attained on the ground of the inner essence, the Dharmakaya of primordial purity, Samantabhadra, without any difference. This is the instruction for liberation in this life for the highest. The second general meaning is that the intermediate diligence, in the Bardo of Dharmata, Dharmata becomes power and the instruction for attaining Buddhahood is: Thus, having received the direct instruction of luminosity from the Lama, those who have practiced a little but have not reached the limit, in the Bardo of Dharmata, seize the stronghold when the self-sound of the basic appearance of awareness arises. The instruction on how to liberate in the inner space of primordial purity has four meanings: In the Bardo of inherent existence, cutting the thread of knowables is like a bird entering its nest. In the Bardo of dying, clarifying the unclear is like a beautiful woman looking in a mirror. In the Bardo of Dharmata, trusting in self-appearance is like a child entering its mother's lap. Incidentally, in the Bardo of existence, continuing the karma is like a fox entering a broken irrigation ditch. The first is: From birth to the approach of death, in the Bardo of inherent nature, externally, the mind is tamed by hearing the Lama's instructions and the profound tantras and agamas. Internally, by thinking about its meaning, the imputations of words and meanings are cut. Secretly, by meditating on the self-arising of meaning, it is repeated in the state of primordial purity, the exhaustion of phenomena. For example, before a bird enters its nest, it cuts off the imputations of benefit and harm from a long distance, and then enters its own nest without hesitation. First, through hearing, one believes in the meaning of direct perception, and in the middle, through thinking, one cuts off the imputations of doubt.
