Also, establish and observe it in your own continuum. When reciting Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Hūṃ), the wind-mind is focused and directed inward and outward, and that is what is held. The reason why it stops conceptual thoughts more than other places is the greatness of dependent arising. Thus, there are three necessities for performing the preliminary practices or actions of speech: common, special, and ultimate. First, all sins of speech are purified, the above qualities are obtained through the actions of speech, the obstacles of speech are pacified, and there is a need to reverse the attachment to speech. Second, there is a need for the attachment to speech to be reversed, so that speech will no longer revolve in samsara, and speech will be liberated into the enjoyment of the complete Sambhogakaya. Third, there is a need for that speech to be non-dual with the Vajra speech of all Buddhas, and to pass into nirvana in the primordial state. Thus, if the preliminary practices are not done, there will be faults that are contrary to it. Third, there are also two preliminary practices of mind. The first is to distinguish them. From the Past and Future Sutra: "In order to do the preliminary practice of mind, take the suffering of the six realms to heart." Therefore, although the mind is initially the Dharmakaya, it wanders in samsara because it does not recognize it as such. In order to prevent it from wandering in samsara in the future, the mind and samsara are distinguished. That is, go to a deserted valley where no one lives, and think that now, for the benefit of sentient beings, I will separate the mind from samsara and nirvana, and vow not to retreat. Establish all the happiness and suffering of the six realms in my own continuum, and contemplate it in the manner of experiencing it. And also establish the subsequent awareness of these in your own continuum and observe it. The signs of success are that the mind is clear and pure, without confusion, joy arises, and all appearances shine with the radiance of joy and bliss. Repeat until these appear. The second is the actual preliminary practice. From the Ornament of Clear Realization: "Where does the mind first arise, where does it dwell in the middle, and where does it go in the end? If you examine these three in this way, you will tame the mind and understand the nature of the mind." Therefore, first examine the place where the mind arises: From where does this mind arise, from the outer container world or the inner sentient beings? From emptiness, appearance, existence, non-existence, etc., where does it arise? Thinking that the mind arises from the nature of mind. Then, it is thought to arise from external mountains, houses, dwellings, etc.

That, too, is observed by analyzing it like an atom. It did not arise from the outer container. If it is thought to arise from the inner self's body, then it cannot be found by searching from half to the atom. It did not arise from emptiness, because the place of origin is not established. It did not arise from appearance, because even if you search for atoms, you cannot find them. Even if you search for what arises from existence or non-existence, you cannot see the essence. Mind does not arise from mind. The place of origin and the originator are not established. When the seeker looks back at the mind, it is separated from the recognition of its essence. Because the mind of the originator is not established, it is known that the recognition of the place of origin is not established. Because the place of origin and the cause cannot be found by searching, it is determined that the nature of mind is emptiness, free from recognition. Thus, because the place of origin is not found in the mind and the mind of the originator is not established, the cause of the first arising of the mind is emptiness. Therefore, the mind is without foundation, without root, and the Dharmakaya is recognized as unborn. Second, examining the dwelling place of the mind, where does the nature of mind dwell? Examining the outer and inner containers and essences, the head and tail of the body, etc., when none of these are seen, looking back at the discriminating consciousness itself, the consciousness is clear and apparent, but because its own nature is not established, it is determined in the great primordial emptiness without foundation and root. Thus, because the dwelling place is not found in the mind, and there is no recognition of the mind of the dweller, the cause of the mind dwelling in the middle is emptiness. This is the recognition that the mind is clear but its own nature is not established, and the Sambhogakaya is unobstructed. Third, examining the place where the mind goes, it is thought that the mind suddenly arises and suddenly disappears. Examining where it ultimately goes, no place to go is found in any of the outer and inner containers and essences, appearance, emptiness, existence, non-existence, etc. Examining the mind that goes, because the recognition of the essence is not seen, it is determined in the unborn, beyond thought mind. Thus, because the place of going is not found in the mind, and there is no recognition of the mind that goes, the cause of the ultimate cessation of the mind is emptiness. This is the determination and recognition that the mind is clear and empty, free from coming and going, in the Nirmanakaya. Thus, for the preliminary or action of the mind, there are three necessities: common, special, and ultimate. First, all the sins of the mind are eliminated, the mind
