From the Mirror of Wisdom: The wisdom of the Dharmakaya is beyond thought and inexpressible; the wisdom of the Sambhogakaya is clear with unmixed colors; the wisdom of the Nirmanakaya can be transformed into anything. Furthermore, from the Ornament of Jewels: The essence does not change in the three times; the nature is eternally without cessation; compassion shines upon all. Furthermore, from the Garland of Pearls: Although many ways of abiding are taught, there are only three kinds of wisdom. Therefore, in summary, in the primordial ground, in the expanse free from elaboration, the five lights, clear and without grasping, as the essence of compassionate awareness, in a manner inseparable in the three times, before the establishment of either samsara or nirvana, the one called Primordial Protector Unchanging Light, possessing the house of awareness and light, dwells inwardly clear like a collection of five-colored threads. As stated in the Precious Golden Lettered Teachings: Before arising and before birth, the Primordial Protector, Unchanging Light, self-arisen, spontaneously accomplished Buddha, abides as the great source of all. Like the sky, the ocean, and precious jewels, it is not annihilation, but a luminous body. It is not permanent, but without substance. It abides in the manner of the sky and a rainbow. It is the great source of all, having become the basis of all. It is free from all limitations, partiality, and is indivisibly, spontaneously accomplished. Thus it is said. Secondly, how samsara and nirvana are projected: The primordial ground, the essence, nature, and compassion, the self-nature of the three, which is not established in either delusion or non-delusion, how does it project samsara and nirvana? Among the two, example and meaning, the example is like a clear, spotless mirror. Although no form that creates appearances exists outside the mirror itself, it serves as the basis for any image, black or white, to appear. Similarly, the primordial state, the nature of emptiness and clarity, free from elaboration, which is not established anywhere, is like a mirror. When the aspects of awareness and non-awareness arise separately, the images of samsara and nirvana appear different. However, at the time of appearance, the primordial ground, like a mirror, does not change in any way, good or bad. For example, no matter what image, black or white, appears, the mirror has no good or bad. Likewise, no matter what image of samsara or nirvana appears, the primordial essence does not change.

It is the unchanging nature of reality, just as it was before, so it is later. It is the unchanging suchness. Thus it is said. From the cause of the wisdom secret wheel, for that which has no certainty of being, anything appears as having appearance. Thus it is said. Then, do those that appear as samsara and nirvana not need to be purified of delusion, since they have no benefit or harm to the ground? Answer: Although there is no benefit or harm to the essence, it appears as having benefit or harm to the aspect, appearing like the aspect of a dream. The deluded appearance of samsara, appearing without being, is purified by the nature of the appearance of suffering in the six realms, and the appearance of nirvana, appearing without being. Moreover, the key to needing to pass into nirvana on the primordial ground is the good and bad of deluded appearances. The sutra says that both are deluded appearances that appear without being: "Good son, all phenomena are like dreams, like illusions. Nirvana is also like a dream, like an illusion. If there is a dharma that is greater than nirvana, it is also like a dream, like an illusion." Thus it is shown. "Good son, all phenomena are not real, they are completely imputed, appearing without being, therefore they are like dreams, like illusions." Thus it is said. Moreover, the primordial ground is the nature of being free from elaboration, it is the dharmadhatu. The appearance of self-arisen accomplishment that arises from that is a dharma that is greater than nirvana. From that very appearance, the forms of the enjoyment body and the emanation body, and the two bodies that appear to be attained through purification and progression, are nirvana. The appearance of that very thing appearing like the door of samsara, and the appearance of the roughly deluded six realms of beings, is called the cycle of existence. Therefore, here, if viewed from the perspective of the Vajra Essence Vehicle, like the nature of a mirror, the primordial ground is clear within, the wisdom three bodies free from elaboration, the intent of being inseparable is not realized, like the images in a mirror appearing black and white, all appearances of samsara and nirvana, suffering and happiness, are seen as the nature of deluded appearances that appear without being. Therefore, both samsara and nirvana need to be liberated simultaneously on the primordial ground. How does it manifest? Although all the sutras say that the Buddha passes into nirvana, that meaning refers to the state of the good appearance of nirvana, the deluded appearance of appearing without being, also dissolving into the primordial state. Also, the intermediate state body and the wisdom...
