It is said that auspicious omens indicated the birth of a glorious emanation, so great rituals should be performed. Then, after nine months and ten days, a very handsome boy was born, unlike ordinary people, like a son of the gods. At that time, in the northeast of the palace, a stupa was built from the remaining clay of building one hundred and eight stupas of Amitayus, but because it could not be stabilized, it was tied with ropes, resulting in it becoming crooked. Everyone burst into laughter, so the stupa was called "Crooked Neck Rope Stupa," and it was predicted that the king would live a long life. In the spring month of the Horse year, on the day of the star "རྒྱལ" (rgyal, victory), a grand birth celebration was held, and he was carefully raised like a lotus in the great ocean. At the appropriate time, the enthronement and naming ceremony were held. When discussing what name to give, the prince himself stood up and said, "I am the king descended from the gods, the lord of the spontaneously accomplished earth, the ruler of all black-headed people, the emanation king Trisong Detsen." All the Tibetan people were amazed and prostrated in worship. Later, at the age of thirteen, his father passed away, and the prince ascended the throne and ruled. However, the great minister Mazhang Zhongba Jie had great power and could not promote Buddhism. All affairs of state were handled according to Bon, which made the king uneasy. Therefore, he asked the minister Guo for a way to make the entire Tibetan region believe in the true Dharma. Guo replied, "This is very good. To eliminate the king's misfortune, imprisoning the two great ministers for three years will help." So, he had people spread this message. He discussed with people, saying, "Let's do it that way at that time." Then, he bribed the diviners to spread the message, and the message spread throughout the kingdom. The king summoned all the ministers and attendants and asked, "Who can suffer for me?" The old minister Guo stood up and said, "I am willing to go." Mazhang also stood up competing and said, "I am also willing to go." After that, an impenetrable prison was built in Tolung (stod lung, present-day Doilungdêqên County) Zhangdar (brang mdar), and the two ministers and three years' worth of supplies were locked inside. The king said to the giant minister Dara Luguong, "Let old Guo out." When Dara Luguong struck the prison door with a huge iron door, Guo used the eagle's

Wearing Dharma robes and a monastic skirt, holding a staff that went 'gol gol,' he came to the door, followed by Ma Zhang. He clapped his hands and said 'Good,' doing this. Tara Lhugong jumped up, and Ma Zhang grabbed him, obtaining a handful of eagle feathers before leaving. Then, Lhugong closed the door, leaving no guard, and returned. Under the pretext of searching for a black horse in the desolate, uninhabited valley north of Gyatsa Lhasnang, he was driven away. Sbal Gyal Tori Zumtak Gyed died lying face up, and there was not a single minister who disliked the Dharma. He sent a bag of gold dust to Sba Sangshi and dispatched him to invite a Pandit. Then, he reported to the king of Ngos: 'The ministers of Tibet have little faith in the Dharma, so if we build a monastery from the beginning, they will not be happy, so we must find a way.' When everyone gathered, they had to follow the example of their ancestors, who had accumulated wealth and vast territories. 'On the top of Shangri Migyur Rinpoche, should we build a crystal palace with a thousand floors, facing east so that we can see the land of the Chinese? Or should we wrap Kapuri Mountain in copper? Or should we fill the Walung Valley with gold dust? Or should we dig nine hundred and ninety-nine wells in the plain of Kachui? Or should we build just the foundation of a monastery? Ask them what they want to do.' At the New Year, in the month of the king, when everyone gathered, the king spoke these words. Everyone remained silent without answering, so Ngos stood up and said: 'Respected King, no one can build a crystal palace on Shangri Mountain that can see the land of the Chinese. Even if it is built, it will be of little use. Even if the spindles and wooden bowls of Tibet are turned into copper, Kapuri Mountain cannot be wrapped. The Walung Valley cannot be filled even with the sand from the banks of the Tsangpo River, so how can it be filled with gold dust? If we dig a well one fathom deep in the plain of Kachui, it will be filled with water, and there will be no place to dig, so how can we dig nine hundred and ninety-nine? Rather than that, if we build just the foundation of a monastery, it will bring happiness in this life and the next, and ultimately we will attain the state of Buddhahood. Wouldn't that be good?' All the ministers of Tibet were happy and said, 'Good, let's do that!' At that time, Sangshi went to Nepal and asked who was the most learned Pandit. They replied: 'Shantaraksita is learned.'
