Then, even without meditating, one reaches perfection and remains unchanged. Outward appearances dissolve into clear light, and the appearances of solidity subside. Inwardly, the illusory body dissolves into clear light, purifying the clinging to contaminated things. Secretly, the mind itself dissolves into clear light, causing the appearances of delusion to subside, severing the connection of karma and habitual patterns. As it says in "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "Through the appearances of perfected awareness, outward and inward grasping of solidity is liberated." Thus, when perfection is reached, it is permissible not to meditate temporarily, and ultimately, having recognized the Sambhogakaya, one will act in the Sambhogakaya realm. Fourth, the appearance of the exhaustion of reality is: the increase and decrease of outer experiential appearances, the exhaustion of the dharma of the inner illusory body, and the exhaustion of the mind of secret conceptual thoughts. All deluded appearances are self-purified, and the mind that grasps at appearance and non-appearance is exhausted. Only a fingernail-sized appearance remains in the light, free from the notions of samsara and nirvana. Since appearance is not established as the essence of anything, it cannot be overcome by the enemies of the elements. The appearance of going and staying is purified. There is no obstruction to clairvoyance. From the aspect of compassion, the appearance of wisdom is clear and uninterrupted. Second, the three signs of increasing experience are: the body, like a person afflicted by illness, is devoid of adornment and the allure of ornaments. Speech, like a madman, speaks aimlessly and nonsensically. The mind, like a person affected by poison, is determined not to return to samsara. Third, the three signs of perfected awareness are: the body, like an elephant emerging from mud in an instant, moves without obstruction through the five elements. Speech, like the echo of a hollow vase, whatever is said benefits others and inspires faith. The mind, like a person cured of smallpox, gains confidence in not regressing in the three realms. Fourth, the three signs of the exhaustion of reality are: the body, like a corpse in a charnel ground, has no fear or shame even when surrounded by executioners. Speech, like a cliff face, exhausts the substance of words and repeats after others. The mind, like a mist in space that vanishes in an instant, the accumulation of habitual patterns disappears, and enlightenment is attained. Third, the nailing down of the three attainments is: As it says in "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "By nailing down the three attainments, the contaminated aggregates will not appear." Therefore, first, gaining autonomy over birth means that the appearance of the aggregates ceases, and they no longer appear as solid. If one is to benefit sentient beings, one's own fingers
