It's like recognizing a thief. In "Clarity of Space," it says, "The one and only basis of all samsara and nirvana." Also, in "Secret Essence Tantra," it says, "The very nature of mind, without a root, is the root of all phenomena." And in the Dohas, it also says, "The single nature of mind is the seed of all; from which arise existence and the passing beyond sorrow." Such statements point to this meaning. Second, seeking flaws: Thus, since this mind, the root of all samsara and nirvana, grasps all objects as self and clings to "I," are the body and speech, which are related to it, one or different? If they are one, just as the body and speech are seen and heard, why doesn't the mind also become seen and heard? Since the mind is not seen or heard, the body and speech should also not be seen or heard. If they are each different, then the body is indivisible particles, speech vanishes without a trace, and after the mind goes like a bird leaving no trace in the sky, the flaw of not being established in any way, neither one nor different, is to recognize this. That is, not falling into any side of object and subject, arising and ceasing, permanence and annihilation, etc., the clear and lucid awareness that is nothing whatsoever, which, as it is, transcends the object of expression, because it is primordially liberated from the signs of delusion and non-delusion. In the "String of Pearls," it says, "In the primordial purity of the very beginning, even the word 'delusion' cannot be spoken. Likewise, what is non-delusion? Therefore, delusion is primordially pure." Just as it is said. Third, examining the nature of reality: Thus, even if the flaw of the basis is not found, from where does this nature of mind, which grasps at self in what is without self, first arise? Where does it dwell in the middle? Where does it go in the end? That is, how does it arise? How does it abide? How does it cease? By examining and analyzing these, since they are not established anywhere, when the antidote of the observer arrives, the object of observation itself is naturally empty, purified from the root, just as when the root of a tree is cut, the leaves naturally wither. The very awareness of the observer is also inexpressible as "this," the nature of self-awareness, pure from the beginning and spontaneously manifest, naturally arises as primordial wisdom. At that time, if one looks at the nature of abiding while abiding, and if one looks at the nature of radiating while radiating, since the self-power free from object and subject naturally maintains the unobstructed awareness, the nature of reality of primordial emptiness, primordial purity, is manifested. In "Bondage and Liberation," it says:

Within, all conceptual thoughts are liberated into emptiness. It is also said: 'If the Alaya-consciousness is known to be pure, then the meaning of the ground manifests and is liberated in its own place.' So it is said. Now, one might think that the examination of the three realms of existence has occurred before. The former is an examination of the object, making a determination when it is not established. This is an examination of the subject, making a determination on the nature itself. As the Dharma Lord Omniscient Great One said, the former is making a determination that the mind is without a basis or root, and the latter is showing the reality of equanimity abiding on the meaning of what has been bestowed. Secondly, the introduction to the nature of awareness is threefold: introducing it through the method of transferring blessings, introducing it on the basis of the view of reality, and introducing it on the basis of experiential practice. The first is: offering and praying by arranging a vast gathering feast. The students offer mandalas and hold the essential points of the body. By making the introducer the object of meditation, the visualization sequence previously explained in Guru Yoga is applied. That is, generating certainty in the nature of fulfilling all qualities, satisfying all desires, and embodying all the Jewels, and entrusting oneself with a carefree mind, thinking, 'The venerable root and lineage lamas, with immeasurable compassion, please consider me and bless my being. Please bless the special realization of the profound path to arise in my being,' generating unbearable longing and devotion to the point of tears flowing. Then, the lama says, 'I pray to Dharmakaya Samantabhadra! Please bless the experience and realization of the profound path to arise in my being!' and so on, invoking blessings by reciting prayers to the lineage. After the blessings are bestowed, the lama himself dissolves into light with immeasurable compassion, merging from the crown of the student, making the three doors of the student inseparable from the three vajras of the lama, releasing and abiding in the nature of non-duality, thus raising a surge of blessings. The appearance of the three doors merges with the lama, and conceptual thoughts arise as devotion. Relaxing and loosening in that state, the radiance of awareness shines brightly as devotion. Without clinging to inherent existence, it arises clearly, and devotion is liberated into self-awareness. Self-awareness is liberated into the realm of unborn, primordial purity, which is called abiding naturally in that state without acceptance or rejection.
