When meditating, if the six consciousnesses cease and one falls into unconsciousness, that is called falling into a one-sided quiescence, which means being in a mistaken place of meditation. Knowing this, one knows that awareness is not tainted by appearances, and appearances are not judged by awareness, but are clear in their own place. Thus, it is said to abide in the view of the basis of appearance and existence. Above that, if conceptual elaborations arise at the end of the word, such as "establishing the basis," then here, the proliferation of words is cut off, and all accumulations are placed on the basis and liberated in their own place. That is, the phenomena of appearance and existence, and the collections of names and letters that arise, are placed in their own place, and without dwelling on words, they are liberated in their own place. This is called placing them in the nature of the basis of reality. At that time, the afflictions themselves are stimulated, and their essence manifests as wisdom. For example, just as when a bowl is carved from clay, salt immediately emerges, so too, the various phenomena of appearance-attachment will surely manifest directly as the Dharmakaya. At that time, giving that person a name is called the time of abiding in the Dharma. All the phenomena of samsara and nirvana abide in one's own mind, and without separating or distinguishing them, abiding in their own place is called meditation. These are explained in the Tantra of the Union of the Sun and Moon. For a yogi who continuously practices the view, there are two types of views: the general view and one's own view. The general view refers to the different tenets of the nine vehicles. These are the views of words, which are based on conceptual mind. One's own view is the view of the Great Perfection, effortless and spontaneous, which means that when looking at external phenomena, one sees them as without inherent existence; when looking at the inner nature of reality, one sees it as unborn; and when looking at the secret self-awareness, one sees awareness directly. So, how does one see it? When looking at fragmented phenomena with the vajra eye, one sees the appearances of phenomena as illusory, or like a dream dreamed in a drunken stupor. One realizes that delusion is not truly established, and therefore one is not confused by the three realms, and one's mind is at ease. When looking at specific phenomena with the eye of wisdom, one sees that the meanings of conventional truth appear in various ways, but are without inherent existence, like an illusion. Therefore, one realizes that the nature of reality has no fixation, and that awareness has no reliance on karma or habitual tendencies, and one's mind is at ease. When looking at the inner nature of reality with the eye of wisdom, one sees that awareness is without sameness or difference, and therefore
