The wisdom of attached speculation, the wisdom of name transformation, and the impure wisdom—these four, although called wisdom, are not true wisdom. Among them, impure wisdom is: hearing is narrow and impure, therefore doubt arises; meditation is short and impure, therefore the mind becomes dualistic; the oral instructions are not thoroughly understood, therefore they are impure and chaotic; not realizing the ultimate meaning of the tenets, therefore it is impure, leading to the view and practice having no foundation. Perverted wisdom is fourfold: hearing contradicts the common teachings, "although it seems like tantras, scriptures, and reasonable arguments, and the wisdom seems great," it is the wisdom of a perverted lineage. Karma and its ripening, "if one is not afraid, although it seems like great wisdom," actions contradict karma, it is perverted wisdom. Disregarding view and practice, failing to attain the result, is perverted wisdom. Regarding the intention of reality, if there is no connection to meaning, "the ultimate view is perverted," disregarding "the Buddha's intention, judging presumptuously," is understanding as perverted wisdom, therefore it is merely wisdom in name, not true. The wisdom of fabrication is: regarding words and phrases, accompanied by a mind of conceptual discrimination, "without correct scriptural authority and definite knowledge," clinging to non-existence as existence, "without understanding the meaning," clinging to existence as non-existence. "Cause and effect" similarly, clinging to existence as non-existence, "like annihilationism," clinging to appearance as emptiness, "like eternalism," clinging to emptiness as appearance, and so on. This is because the lama "initially has narrow hearing, in the middle does not grasp with the confidence of understanding, and finally is not familiar," these three cause the oral instructions to not become valid, and the fault of not being grasped by correct scriptural authority. Therefore, one will engage in memory fabrication and "thinking it is this and thinking it is not this, and following one's own desires," one will make presumptuous judgments about the Buddha's words. "The superficial result is" the appearance of the mind, there is no worse place to go than the Vajra Hell. "One's own virtue and afflictions gathered in places and locations" the wisdom that does not change "in meaning and circumstances" is: again, because initially wisdom is small, regarding the teachings spoken by the Victorious Ones with hidden intent, etc., one does not understand with the mind, therefore each "judges the Buddha's words" and one's own assertions.

The words "self-pure and self-illuminating" also well adorn the "reasonableness." This is because the mind is hesitant and indecisive, and also the "immutability of Dharma" is not grasped by the firmness of pure wisdom. Like this, is it so? Is it not so? One who is complacent with such thoughts is called a wise person, but although translated as wisdom, it is not wisdom. This actually sows the seeds of "perverted wisdom" in samsara, not only does it not help liberation, but it is an accomplice in throwing people into the lower realms. Secondly, there are three aspects to explaining true wisdom: cutting off external superimpositions with the wisdom of listening, dispelling internal confusion with the wisdom of contemplation, and cutting off secret afflictions with the wisdom of meditation. Among them, cutting off superimpositions is words. If a word does not appear, then it does not appear; once it appears, the superimposition is words. Therefore, "the nature of reality is the intention of the Buddha, transcending words and thoughts," when the clinging to elaboration is cut off with the words of wisdom, it is called superimposition, and this is true wisdom. Among them, "dispelling internal" confusion with the "wisdom of contemplation" is like this: when all the clinging to the confusion of the appearing "mind and mental factors" is completely cut off, it is true wisdom. Cutting off afflictions with the "secret of wisdom, etc." of meditation means that when afflictions do not arise in one's own continuum, or there is not even the possibility of afflictions arising, it is true wisdom. Moreover, for "true" wisdom, what is not true is not analyzed by the mind. Like this, "Primordial purity is great, how do you know it is not gradual? There is no need to examine and analyze wisdom. With great wisdom, in an instant, one understands the "reality" of all phenomena, that is, "sudden enlightenment." After understanding in this way, realization arises, thereby cutting off all the limits of words. Because of refuting doubts, hesitation, suspicion, and complacent superimpositions, etc., it is the most excellent of all wisdoms, so it is called wisdom. Among all kinds of wisdom, this is beginningless wisdom. That is, "understanding that all is unborn emptiness, that is the gathering." Holding the bodies of all beings with the wisdom of equality.
