If one does not meet a qualified master, one cannot grasp the path to liberation no matter what one does. Therefore, in this degenerate age, most of the qualified and supreme lamas have passed away. Those who are still alive are far away, and I am unable to go because my body is not fully recovered. Some are old and near death, making it difficult to receive the Dharma and complete the transmission. Some try to take on too much and cannot receive the Dharma in detail. Some only receive instructions and transmissions, which does not satisfy the mind. Some lamas may have a good nature, but they are too young and their training is not complete. Some have a reputation for great views, but upon closer examination, they are like a child's rainbow. Some pretend to be realized and skilled in practice, but upon investigation, they are mostly unfounded and fabricated practices. Some are skilled in words, but their words are not connected to the meaning, like prescribing medicine for a disease without understanding it. Some are known for their experience and understanding of the meaning, but they are not free from conceptual thoughts, like a bird with a broken wing. In short, my own knowledge and wisdom are small, and I have not attained clairvoyance, so I worry about which lama to rely on and suffer from not being able to freely obtain the Dharma. Although I want to travel to different places for the Dharma, my relatives, teachers, students, and sangha discourage me. Unable to resist, I have no choice but to stay in the same place for the time being. As a result, the distractions of the generation and completion stages, as well as the temptations of the gods and demons, and the objects of desire and those to be tamed, increase more and more. Life passes day by day. Diligence in Dharma practice is always postponed to tomorrow or the day after. Attachment, hatred, and clinging increase. Distracting worldly affairs gradually increase. Delusional thoughts rage like a blizzard. Many desires arise in the mind like a storm. In the midst of such illusions, I sometimes forget impermanence and death. Faith and pure perception gradually weaken. Experience and meditation gradually disappear. Sometimes I want to retreat to the mountains, but I cannot be free and am overwhelmed by worldly affairs. Most of the sangha, patrons, teachers, and students think: Your personal matters are not important, you have already accomplished them in the past. This time, you are reincarnated for the benefit of sentient beings. If you abandon benefiting others and only seek your own peace and happiness, wouldn't you fall into the path of the Hinayana shravakas and pratyekabuddhas? Therefore, everyone urges me to benefit sentient beings and flatters me with praises.

After making (others) happy, at such times one is also taken advantage of by demons. Although one does not possess the qualities of abandonment and realization, thoughts of self-righteous arrogance arise from the heart. Thinking of these things, I feel ashamed now. Sometimes when I reflect, they postpone things in distant places, and staying here, I am distracted by busy affairs. Now, without Dharma, life is wasted, and I wonder when I will die, so I speak to myself like this. Alas! The one living named Tsewang Norbu, like a child infatuated with illusionary performances, wanders aimlessly without end, just like before. Now, I should advise myself again. The sound of the lord of death, the demon, is loud, like hailstones in late autumn, coming closer and closer. Death has no distinction of age, young or old, and one does not know when one will die, so one should practice the Dharma. If one has a long life, but does not strive from the heart to practice the excellent Dharma in youth, when one grows old, the aggregates decline, the mind becomes dull, and when the senses deteriorate, even if one remembers the Dharma, there is no time to practice, and it is difficult to perfect the skill of practice. Therefore, one should strive to practice the Dharma now. Alas! What is done is meaningless, all are mad and confused actions, and habitual delusions are just like before. Now, if one wishes to practice the non-delusional Bodhi, in order to rely on a qualified guru and to go to secluded places, one should abandon one's homeland, the prison of demons. In the desolate valleys where there are no people, where birds and wild animals roam freely, on the banks where the sound of gurgling water flows gently, in places where meditation naturally increases, one should still go alone without companions. Without enemies, without relatives, without attachment, hatred, or clinging, without benefit, without harm, without hope, without doubt, in order to directly realize the meaning of the essence of reality, without delusion or grasping, and to quickly accomplish the two benefits of oneself and others, one should travel to impartial and vast lands, and it is time to rely on the supreme holy beings. The seemingly good things in the present are all deceptive acts of demons, not accomplishing one's own benefit, and life and death are dependent on wealth. The appearance of worldly affairs is like unclean things wrapped in silk. Once this impermanent composite body is abandoned, when the infallible results of black and white karma appear, alas! False appearance, who will be your protector? Therefore, one should seek the path of liberation now. Thus, and so on, singing with a feeling of sadness.
