I never expected that I would waste my life with the attitude of "that's just how it is." I didn't have the guidance of a qualified virtuous friend, and I wasn't able to practice the two stages of virtue. My commitment to the cause and effect of vows was just perfunctory. I only had empty arrogance and wore the armor of the eight worldly concerns, enjoying the wealth of the dead and the offerings of the living. In the end, I exhausted the merits of my previous lives in this life, cut off the rope of liberation, and fell into the abyss of endless samsara. How terrible! Therefore, from this life onwards, until I attain the supreme and perfect noble state, may I never again engage in distracting samsaric activities under the guise of "practice" before I have matured. Now, let's get to the main point. During the summer of that year when I was staying in the sacred place of Ritrak (Ri bKra), I met Kathok Gyalsé Sonam Deutsen (bsod nams lde'u btsan) and received many empowerments, instructions, and oral transmissions, which resulted in a special blessing. As autumn began, I asked permission from Jedrung Rinpoche (rje dbon rin po che) in front of the throne and went to a secluded place in Lirong (lCi rong) to attend to the lotus feet of Vajradhara Great Bliss, the essence of Guru Kundü (kun 'dus). Moreover, when returning from the monastery, I thought that this time I must do a genuine practice. In particular, in order to fully accomplish the benefit of oneself and others, it is necessary to have confidence in the correct view, meditation, and realization. To achieve this, it depends on a qualified root guru. Such a root guru is extremely rare, even rarer than the Udumbara flower. Because the beings to be tamed have little merit, it is also uncertain whether he will remain for a long time. Now is the time to practice diligently day and night! Although I thought this way, when I returned to my residence, my firm determination to practice meditation with confidence and assurance became as childish as a child, and it was delayed due to lack of merit. Moreover, there was no other friend to restrain me and urge me on how to practice meditation. Therefore, although I had four thoughts of wanting to do a genuine practice, I did not have the power to put them into action, and the true practice was delayed.

Thinking of doing meaningless funeral rituals such as giving, fire offerings, transference of consciousness, and empowerments, being distracted by the meaningless powder of demons, one or two years pass by. Thinking of doing things that please the Buddhas, benefit sentient beings, have one's own practice in order, and please the Guru, but failing to do so, I now regret it immensely, tears streaming down, sighing and lamenting. Alas! Having obtained a leisure and endowed human body, I wanted to do meaningful practice, but was hindered by the blessings of demons and delayed by time, wasting my life meaninglessly. How can my heart not be troubled when I think of these things? Therefore, do not delay practice. Even if you have to give up the big and keep the small, even if heaven and earth are turned upside down, you must make your own decision and not be swayed by parents, relatives, or friends. With one mind, in a quiet place, diligently practice the ultimate essence without laziness. The lifeblood of the Dharma is the Guru's vows, and one must protect them from decay, even at the cost of one's life. To say something more on the subject, once the thought of practice has arisen, regardless of one's age, as long as altruism has arisen and one has entered the ranks of practitioners, one must have the determination never to change. Even if there is a landslide outside and the sea pours in from below, one must firmly establish one's altruism and not be swayed by parents, relatives, or friends. It is best to spend one's whole life practicing, moderately twelve years, at least six years, and at the very least three years in retreat. Even if one is going to die, one must be able to die in the retreat room. Even if one is sick, one must be able to be sick in the retreat room. Whether one is in a good mood or not, whether one is suffering or not, one must transform them into the path. Divide the day and night into six sessions, and do not be lazy in the practice of the generation and completion stages. If one is outwardly in retreat but inwardly sleeping, stretching one's legs, and counting the beads of delusion, then one is no different from sleeping in a marmot's hole. One must make one's own heart believe that one is practicing, and one must strive from a young age. Thus, one must practice.
