I saw a cubit-long image of the noble Eleven-faced Avalokiteśvara, and in a dream, I also saw a white Vajrakīla appearing as a ray of light. I had planned to go to Zurmang immediately after the passing away of the steward, but because of the steward's passing, I did not receive permission from the seat for a while. After that, as soon as one task was completed, another would arise like ripples in water, without any time to rest. So I resolved that, like a wounded deer, I would devote myself to single-pointed practice in a secluded place that I desired, and I would definitely attain accomplishment in this life. But that did not happen. In any case, as a continuation of the previous experience, at this time, everything that appeared arose as the nature of the deity. At that time, I did not focus on anything other than the way in which virtue arose. Later, when I heard parts of the meaning of the tantric texts, I realized that the genuine physical seclusion described in the tantras had arisen. Here it is said: The uncontrived nature of reality is obscured by the contrived mind, When the uncontrived self-awareness recognizes its own face, Whatever appears arises as the play of the great bliss deity. The deity with faces and hands and the deity beyond faces, This self-arisen in the uncontrived, primordial space, Is the self-movement of the deity's great mudrā body. It is said that it touches the tantra of the common ground of the Vajrayāna, the secret assembly, And the great chariot of Tibet. As all the venerable ones wish, certainty arises from the depths of my heart, Not abiding in the extremes of existence and peace. This great mudrā free from extremes is truly wonderful. I myself think that this way is fortunate. So it is said. Especially at this time, I should have met with Zurmang Tertön Rinpoche Vajralalita, but I was not free to do so. As it is said, "Precious Dharma is rare, and there is always much harm," the passing of the steward caused me a great obstacle to Dharma due to the burden of the seat. In the future, those who wish to practice Dharma should not postpone it even for a moment. That year, the internal conflict in Nepal was very strong. Although it was difficult to quell at first, I made great efforts and finally, when it was close to being settled, the throne and Kunram also came. In the autumn of that year, I went to Kathok and met Sonam Deutsen, the son of Gyalwa, and on the auspicious day of the Descent from Heaven, I took the vows of a celibate novice and a lay devotee, and also shaved my head.

At that time, it was offered, and the name Sonam Tekchok Tendzin Pal Zangpo was given. Although the precepts of refuge had been received many times before, the hair offering had not been made until then. The reason was the fault of the friend's bad habits, and also because the root guru was not alive, and I was unwilling to offer it casually. Therefore, although there were many cases of men and women cutting their hair before, because there is the precept of refuge in one's own mindstream, it will not become a great downfall. However, if one does not cut one's own hair but cuts the hair of others, one must commit a misdeed. In general, if one has not reached the place to receive vows from refuge to celibate layperson, it is acceptable to take the vows oneself in front of a Buddha image. Therefore, I wanted to visit the Vidyadhara Rolpai Dorje, who is said to be living in the direction of Nyagshis Dzogchen, like a thirsty person longing for water. Even though I reached the ferry of Gyashu, I had to return from there because the two companions were unwilling to go and used deceptive means. Otherwise, I could have gone alone, but I was afraid of people saying I was crazy, so I couldn't go. I was deceived because I was afraid of bad reputation in this life. Those who sincerely practice the sacred Dharma must abandon all desires for fame and fortune in this life! Life is short, and one must endure whatever ridicule and evil words people may say. One must have pure Dharma. This time, it is a pity that I could not meet the guru because my mind was too small! This was also caused by bad friends who are like wolves stabbing you in the back. May I not be influenced by such bad friends who obstruct the Dharma from now until I attain enlightenment. May the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and the teachings of that disciple be the witnesses! Vidyadhara Tsewang Norbu's personal experiences, telling a part of good and bad, and offering suggestions to devote oneself to the sacred Dharma, is an enlightenment story, like good medicine in the mountains and fields.
