Moreover, being involuntarily controlled by karma, it is not something we do voluntarily. Furthermore, when old age arrives, the suffering of aging and the body is unimaginable. Even if we do not wish for it, as long as we live a long life to its end, the suffering of old age will come upon us. Not only that, but also the suffering of death. Where there is birth, there is death, as prophesied from the beginning. From birth onwards, we are getting closer and closer to the Lord of Death. In short, from the time we reside in our mother's womb, with each year, each month, each day, each hour, we are getting closer and closer to death, as if running towards the Lord of Death. For example, as it is said in the scriptures, "Like livestock led to the slaughterhouse." Just as livestock led to the slaughterhouse get closer to the slaughterhouse with each step, we too, from birth onwards, are involuntarily getting closer to death. If we were to think according to our own wishes, of course, we would wish not to die, not to age, and not to get sick. However, one day, the Lord of Death, the demon, will suddenly and involuntarily descend upon us. At that time, even if we cherish our body, it will be of no avail. On that day, not only will we have to part with the castles built during the day, the accumulated wealth, the friends and relatives we associated with, but also with the flesh and bones with which we were born. Consciousness itself, like a hair pulled from butter, can only follow the good and bad karma, and there is no other way to seek. If we think about the above situation, we should understand that among all sentient beings, there is no one who has not been a parent. Then, remembering kindness: Since becoming parents, there is no one whose kindness is not great. Now, if we think for ourselves, even tigers and jackals, who are such fierce and cruel beasts, will certainly do things for their offspring to avoid conflict and promote harmony. For example, it is said that if we live near a wolf's den, the wolf will not harm us. That is because they are wary of their own children, and if they cause harm in this vicinity, it will harm their own children.

Thinking there would be good results, they travel far distances, that's just how it is. Even such a fierce fellow, even if he can't speak, cherishes his offspring. For example, no matter how foolish someone is, they are like a yak using its tail to swat flies off its calf. Even a fool like a yak wouldn't fail to love his offspring. This shows that once someone becomes a parent, they give the best food and clothe them with the finest garments, just like present-day parents. Even if a child is as ugly as a maggot in a dung heap, the old mother will unhesitatingly take them into her arms and warm them with the warmth of her body, nourish them with sweet milk, caress them with the tips of her ten fingers, wipe their snot with her mouth, and wipe away their impurities with her hands, treating them like a cherished child, offering wonderful advice with loving kindness. Even someone who begrudges giving a mere handful of food to a crow will unreservedly give their offspring whatever they have, be it a king's throne or a beggar's rags, nurturing them with body, speech, and mind. You must know that parents are such great benefactors. If parents are such great benefactors, then one should consider whether to generate the thought of wanting to repay their kindness. I have now obtained a human body with leisure and opportunity, met a qualified lama, and now have the opportunity to practice the profound instructions. However, those mother sentient beings, the majority of whom are in hell, are as numerous as the dust of the earth. If we were to describe each of their sufferings of heat and cold, for example: Here, in one day, three hundred spears, How great is the suffering of being fiercely stabbed? Even that cannot compare to the suffering of hell, Not even a small fraction is similar. As this verse says, in this world, if three hundred short spears were to stab the body of one person at the same time, it would be the greatest suffering. However, even that cannot represent the smallest suffering in hell, such as the suffering of the Reviving Hell. The suffering of the Reviving Hell is so great. As it is said, the pretas are as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, and the animals are as numerous as the mash of leftover alcohol. They are all just enduring suffering.
