Ah! Inseparable from the supreme Chenrezig, I supplicate the guru and yidam, inseparable. The essence of all eighty-four thousand teachings Is the supreme speech, the six syllables. This essence of the supreme Chenrezig, Recite the six syllables with single-pointed devotion. Thus, with pure faith, devotion, and sincerity, All the merit of reciting the king of vidya mantras, May this dedication to all sentient beings who have not been mothers Be the root of the Mahayana path of benefiting others. By the blessings of the three roots and all the Buddhas, And the blessings and truth of the actual Chenrezig, the Lotus-born King, May we always experience joy and happiness in this life and the next, May it be virtuous and auspicious! This was spoken by the omniscient Khenchen Lama for the sake of making it easy for beginners to understand and enter the path. A Record of the Seven Instructions on Cause and Effect ༄༅། །Herein is the Record of the Seven Instructions on Cause and Effect. First of all, no matter what dharma one practices, motivation and conduct are important. Among them, regarding motivation, although there are many, since we are all entering the Mahayana path, it is necessary to be sustained by the motivation of bodhicitta, which is vast in intention, and the motivation of secret mantra, which is vast in means. Because if you have it, it is enough to accomplish Buddhahood; if you don't have it, you lack the means to accomplish Buddhahood; it is the unerring seed for accomplishing Buddhahood, which is the precious mind of bodhicitta. Before that, one must engage in proper hearing and contemplation on the lojong practices such as the difficulty of finding leisure and endowment. Then, generating the mind of aspiring to supreme bodhi is the main pillar of the Mahayana path. To illustrate this briefly, in general, from the moment one enters the Mahayana path, one must abandon the evil thoughts of self-cherishing as much as possible, and cultivate the thoughts of benefiting others as much as possible. Otherwise, if one only thinks of oneself, one will not attain Buddhahood in the end. Even in samsara, one will not be able to obtain even a small amount of temporary happiness. For example, if a lord does not give rewards, a servant will not work hard; if the lord's work is not accomplished, the servant will not receive rewards. Like that, even the small happiness of samsara cannot be obtained.

Needless to say, the ultimate attainment of Buddhahood is unattainable without it. For this reason, the precious mind of Bodhicitta is extremely important. As the venerable Atisha and Jigme Lingpa, among other holy predecessors, have said through the seven-fold cause and effect instruction, I will briefly explain it here. First, recognizing the mother: From beginningless time until now, we have been under the control of karma and afflictions, wandering in samsara like bees in a jar, experiencing birth and death repeatedly. Wandering like this, we can never find the very beginning. Since being born in samsara, generally speaking, there is no form of the four types of birth (womb-born, egg-born, moisture-born, and spontaneously born) that we have not experienced. Among them, in this desire realm, we mostly wander dependent on our parents. Therefore, we cannot definitively say, "This is my father, this is my mother." As the great Orgyen (Padmasambhava) said: "Accumulating flesh and bones is like the world; accumulating pus and blood is like a great ocean; accumulating karmic connections is inconceivable and beyond words." Just as the four great oceans in the four directions are vast and numerous. However, it is said that the amount of mother's milk we have drunk while wandering in samsara until now, if collected in one place, would exceed even the ocean. Furthermore, if we individuals do not strive on the path to attain enlightenment, samsara will have no end. If there is no end, then we must drink even more! This is what Gonpo Ludrup (Nagarjuna) said. Therefore, since being born in this realm of samsara, there is nothing but the nature of suffering. Now, the realms of gods and humans are somewhat better. Even so, there is no real happiness. Once we are ordinary beings, we are under the control of karma. Once under the control of karma, the four sufferings of birth, old age, sickness, and death will inevitably befall us. At birth, we are involuntarily born due to the power of whatever karma we have accumulated in the past. As ordinary beings, we have no control over our birth. Then, in the state of sickness, even if the body is strong, we will involuntarily suffer from severe illnesses, and the body's strength will diminish day by day.
