Due to reasons such as these, sometimes missing lunch for two or three days, not eating lunch, (he) said that even if he didn't eat lunch for a day or two, he seemed to be in good spirits. It was heard that (he) stayed in good spirits. Later, when he arrived at the monastery and gave instructions, he said that now is the time when the teachings of the pure Dharma Vinaya are extremely declining. In places like India, it is rare to find ordained monks with blessed implements. When some people ask if there are blessed implements, they don't understand, and it seems like they would ask if there are any belongings. In general, nowadays everyone despises the precepts and indulges in recklessness. Hoping to be of some help, when going outside, although he missed lunch for a few days due to the journey, (he) said that he didn't eat dinner. Furthermore, in the casual conversations of Dharma teachings, (he) earnestly said that ordination is the main thing to be practiced, the three bases, and especially the Uposatha, which monks must not fail to do. Similarly, (he) said that great accomplished ones benefit the Dharma and sentient beings by relying on the actions of accomplishment, but people like himself do not have such means and abilities, so there is nothing more important than being serious about the pure Dharma Vinaya. Even in his later years, when life was very difficult, on the day of the Uposatha, before the sounding of the ghanta, from the time when the sound of the gong urged him, (he) himself would go to the assembly hall, light fragrant incense such as sandalwood, arrange the water offerings and lamps, and during the third session, prostrations, standing, sitting, etc., were done without any negligence. Moreover, the texture, size, color, and way of wearing the robes were all very dignified and pleasing, as described in the Vinaya. On the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the Uposatha, and on issues such as what actions can be accepted and what actions cannot be accepted, he practiced from the subtle points, and did not do any easy practices that were not found in the Vinaya texts and lineages. When going to temples where the Three Jewels are enshrined, monastic assembly halls, and monasteries, he would not wear shoes, would not prostrate, and would not walk with the cushion tied around his waist.

Because you are all learned and virtuous, wherever you reside in the future, you will surely become objects of veneration and possess great merit. At that time, you must be mindful of the possessions of the Sangha and keep them in mind. Until the age of sixty, he would not allow others to perform services or light lamps, but would do them himself. During the summer retreat, if he took a small amount of fire from the monastery's communal kitchen, he would provide an iron hook to extinguish it. It is said that this was the tradition of Changma Gar (lCang ma sGar). When he went to Zurmang Namgyal Tser (Zur mang rNam rgyal rtser), as soon as he heard that the bedding and utensils on the top floor of the assembly hall belonged to the Sangha, he had them moved elsewhere at midnight. As mentioned earlier, when he went to Tawu (rTa'u) Tibetan School every year, he would say to the students who served him, "It would be better if we could stay in a place in the town where we can rent a bed. I am not a wanderer, so it doesn't matter what I wear. If I stay in a monastery, I don't know if it will involve the possessions of the Sangha." Furthermore, he would constantly repair the assembly hall of the Dharma school, his own monastic residence, and damaged fences, and even sweep the inner and outer courtyards, just like an ordinary, upright monk. He also regularly cleaned the environment where the Sangha resided, opened and closed the gates around the courtyard, and even took care of the dog feeding troughs. Seeing these actions, I was reminded of the Vinaya Sutra, where our teacher served the sick, prepared beds, bedding, and cushions for the Sangha, and provided shelter from the sun and rain. I thought that the teacher's conduct must have been like this, and a feeling of faith stirred in my heart. In short, as the scholar Gendun Chophel (dGe 'dun chos 'phel) said, "The Vinaya of Tibet is only spoken of, but the real Vinaya can be seen in Ceylon (Sri Lanka)." He was an example of putting into practice the immaculate teachings of the Vinaya Ocean. Among all the Vinaya holders, he stood out like Mount Meru, and this is by no means self-praise.
