When you hear someone calling out and saying, "Please give me something," do not be displeased. Instead, commit to giving something that can be offered. At that time, stinginess will arise, so remember the faults of stinginess. Remember things like, "A stingy person will be reborn in the realm of the hungry ghosts, and even if they are reborn as a human, they will be reborn as a poor person." Then, giving becomes the antidote to stinginess. If the items to be given, such as food, are of both good and bad quality, giving the bad ones violates the precepts of giving. Therefore, regardless of the size of the item, give the good items with pure intention. Place the items you can afford in a container without cracks, thinking that you do not have anything better to give now, but in the future, your body, possessions, and roots of virtue will be given to all sentient beings, starting with this beggar. Adjust your motivation with the attitude of a mother loving her child, give with a smile, rubbing your hands together. If they beg again, do not be angry, and if you are wealthy, give according to your ability. If you do not have it, explain the situation of not having it well with words. Then, like a calf following its mother, dedicate and pray for the benefit of all sentient beings, including the recipient, with the cause and effect of that giving. In terms of offerings, take only the image of the Buddha as the object of focus, visualize the refuge as vast as the ocean manifesting, and the offering item is like a single butter lamp. The way of offering should be complete with the three aspects of preliminary, main part, and conclusion. In the main part, clarify the object to whom the offering is made, the item to be offered, and the purpose of the offering. Direct the understanding that these three wheels are empty, appearing but without inherent existence. These should be offerings and generosity made without expecting rewards in this life or ripening results in future lives. Express gratitude with sweet words, with loving-kindness and compassion. Giving that becomes the antidote to stinginess, and meditation without expecting rewards and ripening results, is the giving of the accumulation path. Great giving is the path of joining, and extremely great giving is the giving of the path of seeing. Beginners should give their body with their mind and protect it with their actions. Enjoyment becomes the antidote to stinginess.

It is also necessary to give. It is necessary to give the roots of virtue together with the fruits. The boundary of Dharma giving, actually benefiting sentient beings, starts from the first bhumi. Before that, it will not actually benefit sentient beings, so go to the top of high mountains, etc., adjust the pure motivation, and with "Namo Arya Dampa" etc., recite scriptures, and through subsequent Dharma giving such as incense offering, torma offering, and body offering, thinking that countless beings are liberated, this is considered Dharma giving for the initial practitioner. Second, discipline must be maintained constantly and without interruption, without departing from discipline. First, complete the preliminaries of each session, and if you have the desire to continuously possess a mind of renunciation that includes the seeds, then that is discipline. If there is no mind of renunciation in your heart, even if you abandon the ten non-virtues, it is not discipline. Therefore, if there is a mind of renunciation in your heart, then there is discipline; if not, there is no discipline. Therefore, it is necessary to grasp it with both the mind of renunciation and the iron hook of vows. In the main practice of each session, from the ten non-virtues to the vows of the Great Perfection, for each item, you must grasp it with the mind of renunciation that does not create sins, and the iron hook of vows that you will not give up even if you give up your life. First, for all sentient beings, generate the thought of seeing them as mothers, remembering their kindness, and wanting to repay their kindness, all of which must be combined with this and all that follows. First, all sentient beings should attain the state of perfect and complete enlightenment. For this purpose, from today onwards, until I attain perfect and complete enlightenment, if I kill sentient beings, I will die; if I cause others to kill, I will die; if I rejoice in killing, I will die. Like this, each mind of renunciation, and the vow that you will not give up even if you give up your life, must be grasped with the iron hook of vows, and all that follows is the same. Corresponding to this is to protect life. Also, even if I die of starvation, I vow not to have the thought of taking what is not given; I vow not to have the thought of causing others to steal; I vow not to have the thought of rejoicing in others' stealing. I vow not to have the thought of engaging in impure conduct. Corresponding to this is to practice celibacy.
