When praying to deities and others, Captain Bodhisattva said, "Everyone must take refuge in the Tathagata." Everyone then exclaimed, "Taking refuge in the Buddha!" Hearing the name of the Tathagata, the demons were terrified and sank into the ocean, closing their mouths and dying of starvation. Hearing the name of the Buddha, they were reborn in the Trayastrimsa heaven as gods, and finally saw the truth. Therefore, merely hearing the name of the Tathagata can save one from the fears of samsara and the lower realms, and his activity is so vast. Secondly, regarding the sacred Dharma, there are three aspects: essence, divisions, and qualities. First, the essence is: that which removes the obscurations of afflictions, knowable objects, and habitual tendencies, or that which becomes the method for removing these obscurations, this is the essence of the sacred Dharma. "Removing" refers to: the cessation of afflictions by the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas, and the truth of the path, which is the method for removing afflictions. The divisions are twofold: the Dharma of scripture and the Dharma of realization. The Dharma of scripture can be divided into eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, which can be summarized as the twelve branches of scripture, and further summarized as the three baskets of scripture, the Tripitaka. The Dharma of scripture resides in the mind-streams of the Sangha, while external written books are merely the support for the Dharma of scripture, according to the Sutra school. In the context of Secret Mantra, there are three aspects: symbolic, appearing, and expressed. Symbolic refers to: the form of the scriptural books. Appearing refers to: the Dharma of scripture appearing in the mind-streams of the Sangha. Expressed refers to: the sounds and words of verbal expression. In short, the precious Dharma of the Victorious Ones, both scripture and realization, are twofold. For example, the words "abstaining from killing" being memorized is the Dharma of scripture, and practicing and cultivating its meaning is the Dharma of realization. The Dharma of realization is further divided into the three superior trainings, namely, the Dharma of scripture of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers of the Lesser Vehicle, the three baskets of scripture, whose expressed content is the three trainings. The Vinaya of the Great Vehicle expresses the training of ethics, such as the twenty root downfalls. The Sutra Pitaka expresses the training of samadhi, such as loving-kindness and samadhi. The Prajnaparamita

The subject matter of Abhidharma, such as the Compendium of Knowledges, the Summary of Knowledges, and the Abridged Compendium of Knowledges, is the great Madhyamaka, the study of wisdom. All empowerments and vows of mantra are for taming. The order of its teachings and vows is the study of discipline. The teachings of the four or six tantra classes are the Sutra Pitaka. The common generation and completion stages of its teachings are the study of Samadhi. The tantras of the Great Perfection are Abhidharma. The essence of its teachings, Kadag Trekchö (primordial purity, cutting through) and Lhündrub Tögal (spontaneous presence, direct crossing), are the ultimate study of wisdom. In short, all aspects of the expressing words are the Dharma of Scripture. All aspects of the expressed meaning are the Dharma of Realization. Regarding qualities, as it is said, "The qualities of Dharma are inconceivable," it dispels all the decline of samsara and nirvana, and brings about all the perfections of samsara and nirvana, which are the qualities of the sacred Dharma. Regarding the Sangha, from the three aspects of essence, division, and qualities, the essence is that which possesses the two qualities of knowledge and liberation, which is the essence of the Sangha. Among them, seeing, reasoning, and understanding are the same in meaning, only different in name. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers, in the order of the four fruits, see the nature with the four truths and are liberated from what is to be abandoned. Bodhisattvas see the truth with the Dharma nature of the path of seeing, and after realizing it, are liberated from what is to be abandoned. From then on, until the end of the continuum of the ten grounds, they are Sangha members who are liberated from afflictions, knowledge, habitual tendencies, and whatever is to be abandoned. In terms of division, there are the Sangha of the Lesser Vehicle Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the Sangha of the Great Vehicle Noble Ones. The former is the common Sangha, namely the three of Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas. The latter is the uncommon Sangha, namely the Sangha within the Vidyadharas. The former is further divided into the Sangha of ordinary beings and the Sangha of noble ones. The essence of ordinary beings is that they are motivated by the thought of renunciation, take the vows of the eight classes of individual liberation, protect pure discipline, practice Samadhi, generate wisdom, and abide on the paths of accumulation and preparation until they have not seen the truth. The basis of the noble ones is the four truths, seeing the truth in the form of the sixteen aspects of impermanence, etc., and entering into its continuum, which is the Stream Enterer. Not yet abandoning all of the nine levels of desire realm afflictions, and needing to take birth once in the desire realm, which is the Once Returner. Remaining desire realm afflictions
