One should think like that. If not, but instead, one arrogantly despises gods and demons, pursues fame for the sake of the eight worldly concerns, thinking, "My life and lifespan will not be cut short, for the sake of bearing the guru's responsibility," etc., pretending to give the body, pretending to cut off fierce places, pretending to travel to a hundred springs. Thinking, "Is it better to meditate on compassion, or is it better to meditate on emptiness?" reciting wrathful mantras, meditating on protective circles, and praying to the lama, etc., these cannot cut off the demon of inner pride, and one has already been truly carried away by the demon. Therefore, the demon of inner pride, whether staying in the village or wandering in fierce places, must be cut off. Therefore, the ultimate essence of the profound practice of Chöd is to cut off this self-grasping with emptiness and compassion as its essence. Then, when giving the body, first, one must awaken the latent clinging to this body. Because for all the necessities of this worldly life, such as food, clothing, shelter, and possessions, this body, from the time it became disobedient, has accumulated them through the doors of both sin and suffering. Therefore, among all things, this body is the most cherished and loved, so one must awaken this clinging well. Then, towards all sentient beings, especially gods and demons, one should remember the kindness of the mother, remember the gratitude, and generate the thought of wanting to repay the kindness. For the sake of repaying the kindness, one makes the offering of the body to the four guests. Just like when accumulating the mandala, in the morning one makes the white offering, during the day one makes the variegated offering, and in the evening one makes the red offering. Or, in each session, one makes all three great offerings. Especially in times of fierce diseases and evil spirits, for the gods and demons who do not like white offerings and crave flesh and blood, one must make red offerings. Black offerings are for those gods and demons who cannot be summoned, or even if summoned, cannot be satisfied, or even if satisfied, cannot be cut off and take a long time. However, if one is impatient and makes black offerings because one is slightly unhappy, that goes against the bodhisattva path and should not be done. Sometimes there seems to be a saying about the visualization of black offerings, but it is not written down. Sixth, Guru Yoga. Sixth, the guidance on the profound Guru Yoga, which is the ultimate of all methods for generating the wisdom of realization in one's own mindstream. Regarding this, there are various...

Through the nine vehicles of the path of action, one must also generate the wisdom of realization in one's own mind-stream in order to attain the result. According to the New Schools, emptiness is meditated upon by the Hearers, and its result is cessation. They hold that there is no higher or lower in view. According to the Ancient Mantra School, there is higher and lower in view; although Hearers and Solitary Realizers are not without wisdom, they have only limited wisdom. Bodhisattvas, by realizing the view of the Perfection of Wisdom, have wisdom that is not limited but vast, or a higher view, so there is a great difference between the wisdom of Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas. First, Hearers and Solitary Realizers must seek a Khenpo or Acharya who possesses all the characteristics, and with the thought of renunciation as their motivation, take the vows of individual liberation and practice the three superior trainings of the path, then they will attain the state of liberation. The main or essence of all paths is wisdom, and discipline and samadhi are the retinue, so one must practice the truth of the path with its retinue. It is not said that one can attain the state of Hearer or Solitary Realizer Arhats merely through faith in the Lama and Khenpo. However, the Sutra says, "Shariputra, the ultimate truth is to be realized through faith." If one thinks that one can realize the meaning of selflessness through faith alone, that is not so. Because without faith there is no way to enter the path, and faith is the door that opens all Dharmas, this is a quote saying that one must have faith first. Faith alone is not the means to realize Suchness. Therefore, if one slanders the Khenpo and Acharya who gave one vows, it will obstruct the practice of the path, so one must have faith. Even without meditating on the Four Noble Truths, one cannot attain the Arhatship of Hearers and Solitary Realizers through faith alone. Bodhisattvas, if they do not rely on an external guide, the Lama, the virtuous friend, and do not train their minds in the internal guide, loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment, then they will not see the truth of the Dharma-nature of the path of seeing. Therefore, it is said: A spiritual friend should be peaceful, disciplined, and thoroughly pacified, surpassing in qualities, especially rich in scriptural authority, realizing reality, eloquent, possessing loving-kindness, and free from weariness. Rely on such a one. That is to say, even if not a Lama possessing ten qualities, one should rely on a virtuous friend who can develop loving-kindness, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment through faith.
