Since it is pure, why is there no need for confession? The third is the power of restoration: For example, just as fences and other things that were previously damaged are later restored, it is analogous to the vows of the three vehicles (Pratimoksha, Bodhisattva, and Vajrayana) that, if broken, are later restored through confession, and one resolves never to commit them again, even if it costs one's life. That is to say, we have all taken all the vows of the three vehicles, so there is nothing to repair. However, if one merely says, "I will not do it again in the future," it is of no use. Therefore, the lamas and monks of today do not conceal or hide their transgressions when confessing, and while saying, "I will also cut off and guard them in the future," they are actually constantly creating negative karma. Therefore, first of all, even with just the single act of killing, if one vows not to kill those beings that one would not kill anyway, then one possesses the precept of not killing and can obtain benefits. If one does not make such a vow, then merely not committing the naturally sinful act does not gain the merit of abstaining from killing. Therefore, whether male or female householders, if they vow not to kill lions, dragons, elephants, etc., which they would not kill anyway, they can gain merit. Similarly, renunciants should also first vow: Even if it costs my life, I will not kill a lion. One should seize oneself with this vow of not giving up even if it costs one's life. And in the same way for each sentient being, seize oneself with the hook of the vow of not killing. Similarly, starting with not taking what is not given, for each of the remaining nine non-virtuous deeds, vow not to do them. And seize oneself with the hook of such a vow: Even if my flesh is cut into pieces and I die, I am willing to give it up. Similarly, for the five heinous crimes, vow not to commit these five crimes. For the five near-heinous crimes, vow not to commit these five crimes. For the four heavy offenses, vow not to commit these four offenses. The four heavy offenses are: the high status of a scholar, the wealth of a tantric practitioner, the offerings to a monk, and the food of a practitioner. That is to say, even if it is not originally the food of a practitioner, but if one thinks of using this food to practice this month and thinks of oneself as a practitioner, then...

For people in barren lands, eating a little food is satisfying, but in times when food is needed, it becomes an obstacle due to insufficient food. The eight wrongdoings are: disparaging and praising both black and white sides; disrupting the gatherings of virtuous people; disturbing the minds of those with faith; abandoning the guru, deity, and Dharma friends; and breaking the samaya substances, making eight in total. That is, disparaging the white, virtuous side and praising the black, sinful side; obstructing the accumulation of virtuous people's gatherings and destroying the gatherings; speaking unpleasant words to those with faith who practice virtue, disturbing their minds; the latter four are, opening the mandala of the Secret Mantra Vajrayana, and fighting, speaking ill of each other, and arguing in the mandala's gathering, which leads to the separation of the guru, deity, and Dharma friends, as well as the samaya substances of the mandala, these four situations occur. Therefore, for these eight wrongdoings, take the vow not to do them. Then, for the abandoned precepts of the outer Pratimoksha vows, first, the four root downfalls and the five kinds of alcohol of a layperson, take the vow not to do these five. For the ten coarse and thirty subtle precepts of a novice monk, take a vow not to violate each one. For the first four root defeats of a fully ordained monk, even if it costs your life, take a vow not to violate them. Then, for the remaining thirteen, take a vow not to do these thirteen. For the thirty expiatory offenses of abandonment, the ninety single expiatory offenses, the four confessions, and the one hundred and twelve misdeeds, each one must be grasped with the iron hook of vowing not to violate them. Then, for the eighteen root downfalls of the profound view and practice of a Bodhisattva, the twenty-two vows of aspiration and engagement, and the eighty misdeeds, for each one, take a vow not to violate them. For the four motivations of the vast conduct school, the eight applications, and the forty-six misdeeds, take a vow for each one. The twenty-five practices of mantra, the outer and inner vows of the five classes of common outer and inner lineages, the fourteen root downfalls, the eight branch gross offenses, the twenty-seven root samayas of the Great Perfection, the twenty-five branches, and the four spontaneously accomplished samayas of the unique, uncreated state, for each one, take a vow not to violate them. Such a vow, even if it costs your life, do not violate it.
