Since even the atom is without parts and therefore without inherent existence, the place where mind arises from it is not established. Thus, when examining the mind, it seems to be non-existent. However, if one thinks that since the mind arises and has a place to abide, therefore the mind has a place to abide, that is also not the case. It is like a barren woman who has never given birth to a child from the beginning, so there is no place to abide in between, although this does not need to be examined. But if one still thinks there is a mind, then it needs to be examined. As before, the six external objects, the six internal sense faculties, when examined between them, there is no place for the mind to abide. Thus, even though the two places of arising and abiding of the mind do not exist, if one thinks that there is ultimately a place of cessation, that is also like the barren woman's first child not being born, and there being no abiding in between, just as there is ultimately no death. When examining between the six external objects and the six internal sense faculties, since the atom is divided into parts, its inherent nature is not established, so there is no place for it to cease either. Thus, even though the three aspects of mind—arising, abiding, and going—are sought but not found, if one still thinks that a thought suddenly arises, so this must exist, that is not the case. If this mind had a thing, it is impossible to have a thing other than shape and color. When examining whether the mind has a round, square, crescent, triangular, long, short, narrow, flat, or non-flat shape, there is no shape. When examining whether there are colors such as white, yellow, red, and green, there is no color. When examining whether there are forms such as male, female, hermaphrodite, horse, and elephant, form is not established. If one still thinks it exists, if one looks to see if the mind can be seen in all the external appearances and sense faculties inside and outside the body, the mind has no form to be seen. If one listens with the ear, there is no sound of the mind to be heard. Therefore, the old people of the world say that if the eye does not see and the ear does not hear, they say it does not exist, and do not say it exists, therefore the mind is not established by its own nature. If one still smells with the nose, can one smell the scent of the mind? If one tastes with the tongue, can one taste the flavor of the mind? If one touches with the hand, examining all places inside and outside the body, whether the mind can be touched, since it cannot, therefore the mind is emptiness. Thus it is said. Like this, without examining and analyzing, from emptiness, which is nothing at all, the interdependent nature of the mind, which is without cessation, can appear. Emptiness is mind. Thus, emptiness and interdependence
