For sentient beings, if one has shoes while another does not, there needs to be a way to walk with one shoe on each foot. This is because two feet experience suffering together, and two feet experience happiness together. Therefore, I must accomplish the happiness of sentient beings, and I must dispel suffering. Without me needing to look, each experiences their own happiness. For example, my youngest son experiences the happiness of higher realms, the middle son experiences the happiness of self-benefit, and the eldest son experiences the happiness of Buddhahood. I do not need to strive or be diligent; I rejoice in sentient beings experiencing the result of happiness. I rejoice in obtaining wealth, faith, and so on. How wonderful it would be if such happiness did not diminish or deteriorate, but continued to increase. From the level of thought, I cultivate joy in this way. From the level of action, I must also accomplish happiness together in that way. To expand in that way is to complete the four immeasurables, or to summarize, it is the two, loving-kindness and compassion, or simply to cultivate the compassion of wanting to be free from suffering and longing. That is relative Bodhicitta. Ultimate Bodhicitta is to lead to the definitive understanding of emptiness, where the three spheres appear but are empty of inherent existence. In short, Abu Rinpoche said, "When happy, magpies are happy together; when suffering, crows suffer together." This means that we must accomplish happiness together and dispel suffering together. This equality of self and others is equal in both thought and action on the path, and in the result, it is the method of realizing the equality of all phenomena of self and others. Therefore, all self and others are equal from the perspective of the emptiness of Dharma-nature, equal from the perspective of the appearance of emptiness, equal from the perspective of relative appearance, and equal from the aspect of the union of appearance and emptiness. This is the meaning of cultivating equality according to the Sutra tradition. When the equality of self and others is well-practiced, one must cultivate the Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others. When it comes to exchanging self and others, Abu said, for example, if many shepherds have a felt cloak, when self and others are equal, it is like when one considers oneself most important and wears the cloak. When exchanging, it is like putting the cloak on all the others, while oneself goes outside and stands in the rain. Therefore, what fault is there in wanting to accomplish happiness together and dispel suffering together when cultivating?

If you meditate on yourself as the main deity, you must now drive away the demon of self-grasping. The thought of exchanging self and others should be called the ritual of driving away demons and suppressing them. To meditate on this, first, generate the realization of knowing the mother, remembering her kindness, and wanting to repay her kindness, and then meditate on that basis. Now, this mother, initially having nothing to wear herself, even if she got a piece of cloth, she gave it to her son. Having nothing to eat herself, even if she had a little bit of good food, she gave it to her son. All her wealth and possessions she gave to her son without any reservation, and even if her son was placed on the throne of a Chakravartin king, she never felt it was too much, and she gave all the shares of happiness and well-being to her son. All the shares of suffering, such as suffering, sin, bad words, etc., were taken by the mother herself. All the losses and failures were taken by the mother herself. All the gains and victories were given to her son. Now it is my turn as the son, and I must eliminate the suffering of the old mother. Taking it with great compassion, thinking: Is this mother happy or suffering? There is no happiness, she is suffering. Chased by the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death in this life, connected by the suffering of the Bardo. And welcomed by the suffering of future lives, tormented by the three sufferings of result. And the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, which are the causes of suffering, and the suffering of the ten non-virtuous actions such as killing, stealing, adultery, lying, and drinking, may both the cause and effect of suffering be separated. How wonderful it would be if they were separated! I will do this separation. To be separated from the cause and effect of suffering, one must pray to the Three Jewels. Alas, alas! Compassionate Three Jewels, etc., and the Guru, the Victorious One, the Protector of beings, etc., and the Hero, you who possess the power of compassion, etc., pray for the desired purpose. Such a distant transference is not helpful. The suffering of the kind mother, both cause and effect, now immediately, as quickly as possible. Right here in this seat, right here in this place, may it ripen upon me! How wonderful it would be if it ripened! I will do this ripening. For ripening, pray to the infallible Three Jewels, may your compassionate power and ability not diminish. From this little bit of happiness I have now, may I temporarily gain victory.
