Secondly, the nature of attaining Buddhahood is the cause of the inherent lineage, and the increasing factor is the condition of the lineage, so it is like a seed. When such a mind arises in the continuum, as mentioned above, the benefit of the transformation of name and meaning, all the roots of virtue tend towards the Great Vehicle, which is the benefit like the fruit of an edible tree. All the roots of virtue not grasped by Bodhicitta can only be experienced once and exhausted with the fruit of happiness, which is a particularly superior benefit compared to the fruit of aquatic plants. These three benefits are like this: even if you don't offer a small piece of butter lamp, if you offer it with the goal of attaining Buddhahood, then upwards, the number of Buddha's qualities and downwards, the number of sentient beings will make the roots of virtue grow more and more. If a precious Bodhicitta arises in the continuum of a person who has accumulated decisive sins, that is, the five inexpiable sins, then he will not have to go to the lower realms, just like throwing a silk bag on the ground. For uncertain sins, such as killing people, tying up horses, blowing ashes on others after a house fire, etc., all sins are destroyed in the moment when Bodhicitta arises in the continuum, just like the fire at the end of the kalpa burning grass. Therefore, it can eradicate the obstacles of karma and afflictions from the root, and completely eliminate the obstacles to knowledge. Therefore, these benefits are extensively described in the Avatamsaka Sutra, and also in the first chapter of the medium-length Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra. In brief, Maitreya Bodhisattva said: "It can prevent from the paths of evil destinies, it can well show the way to the higher realms, it can lead to the state of no old age and death, I prostrate to Bodhicitta." Therefore, if you always remember the benefits of Bodhicitta, in order not to lose Bodhicitta and not generate root downfalls, etc., you must first remember at the beginning and finally at the beginning of meditating on the joy of oneself and others. Now, for the method of not losing the Bodhicitta that has arisen, and constantly increasing it, there are two types of learning: the learning of aspirational Bodhicitta and the learning of engaging Bodhicitta. First, the method of not losing the Bodhicitta that has arisen is aspirational Bodhicitta, that is, the cause of losing Bodhicitta is the thought of pursuing one's own interests, and its companion is anger. These two will cause Bodhicitta to be lost and not grow. How is it lost? If either of the two aspects of aspirational Bodhicitta is lost, such as cutting the root of a tree.

Therefore, just as all limbs collapse powerlessly, once the root downfall has occurred, even if other branch downfalls have not been lost, it is of no use. Root downfalls are difficult to restore, while branch downfalls are easy to restore. So, how are these two branches lost? They are the abandonment of sentient beings and the abandonment of omniscience. First, abandoning sentient beings is like harming oneself, like a murderer who kills his father, or even if it is not like that, for a place that one dislikes, you say "You did this to me...", and at that time, the thought of clinging to one's own desires arises. When anger arises, it is one abandoning the other, so that clinging to one's own desires and anger both cause the compassionate mind focused on sentient beings to be lost. For example, if one stick is taken out from a bundle of many sticks, all the other sticks will scatter powerlessly. Abandoning one sentient being, even if other sentient beings are not abandoned, is of no use, because the root downfall has already occurred. Abandoning omniscience, for example, taking generosity as an example, the object of generosity is the head and limbs, the recipients of generosity are all sentient beings, the time is as long as existence lasts, the number is that each sentient being has as many heads and limbs as there are dust particles on the earth, and there is no place where it is not given. Like this, other practices such as discipline also need to be practiced in this way. Because our teacher, under the Bodhi tree, has already given generosity of heads and limbs exceeding the number of dust particles on the earth, so there is no need to say anything else, learning like learning the six perfections, accumulating merit, even the obstacles of demons will be lost from the path of accumulation and preparation, thinking: I am not doing such a great practice. If I achieve the fruit of a Hearer or Solitary Realizer Arhat, is that better? Because all the objects of realization on the path of seeing have not been brought under practice like illusions, omniscience is abandoned. Starting from the path of accumulation and preparation, first is the thought and action of clinging to one's own desires, therefore, both the Pratimoksha vows and the Bodhisattva vows of the Sutra tradition are lost because of clinging to one's own desires. In the Tantra, breaking the vows by contradicting the Guru and Dharma friends is also because of the thought and action of clinging to one's own desires. Therefore, one must remember the faults of clinging to one's own desires and the benefits of the precious Bodhicitta, as mentioned above. In short, Shantideva said: What need is there to say more? The Buddha
