Thinking of placing them in the state of Buddhahood. From this external circumstance, three types of aspirations arise: great, medium, and small. Where am I going? First, there is the great aspiration to accomplish the benefit of all sentient beings. The medium aspiration is thinking, "I will not go first, nor will I leave sentient beings behind; I will achieve Buddhahood together with others." Like a round calf being carried away by water, I currently have no power, so the one with power is the teacher, the Buddha Bhagavan. Therefore, first I will achieve the state of Buddhahood, then through realization, I will liberate my own mindstream, and through compassion, I will liberate all other sentient beings, thereby showing the path to liberation. The benefit of beings is vast like the expanse of the sky, and long-lasting until samsara is empty. Just as the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Vidyadharas of the ten directions and three times have accomplished, so too will I accomplish. This external circumstance is aiming for perfect enlightenment with wisdom. This wisdom is the wisdom to accomplish the benefit of others. Thus, first arising in one's own root mother, then the father, then siblings, then dear friends, then one's father's side, then one's mother's side, then all the villagers. Then gradually, when placing together, if one does not gradually cultivate towards all sentient beings pervading the expanse of the sky, one will go towards meaningless chatter, therefore gradual cultivation is important. Such a Bodhicitta aspiration with two external circumstances or two meanings, or the root of virtue being grasped by skillful means, is called the preliminary aspiration. As the great omniscient one said: The preliminary aspiration, the main practice without an object, and afterwards being completely grasped by dedication, are the three essentials for traversing the path to liberation. Thus, first, the root of virtue being grasped by skillful means is called the preliminary aspiration, which is wishing that all sentient beings be separated from suffering and its causes, and attain the state of perfect Buddhahood. Thinking for this purpose, with a mind like an iron hook, grasping the root of virtue like a pile of grass. Second, the main practice of making the root of virtue indestructible by conditions is without an object. By what conditions is the root of virtue destroyed? If one does not dedicate it for the sake of attaining perfect Buddhahood for the benefit of others, one will experience the result of happiness only once.

are exhausted. If anger arises, all the virtues accumulated over a thousand eons, such as generosity and offerings to the Sugatas, are destroyed by a single act of anger. As it is said, all the virtues arising from generosity and discipline accumulated over a thousand great eons are destroyed in the very moment that anger arises in the mind. If regret arises for virtuous roots, the virtuous roots are exhausted. If one later regrets the offerings and generosity one has previously made, regretting the previous object and begrudgingly taking it back, thinking that it would have been better to have offered only half or a third of that object, then regret arises and it is exhausted. If one boasts of virtuous roots, they are exhausted. Even if one can or cannot complete a hundred million repetitions of the Mani mantra, one strings a conch shell onto the rosary and says, "I have not finished completing a hundred million Mani mantras," boasting to everyone about the rosary. If one accomplishes even a small amount of virtue, one sits down and talks about it in front of others. If one stands up and talks about it in front of laypeople, the virtue is exhausted. In order to prevent these four causes of exhausting virtue from exhausting it, one must realize the view of the Ground of Great Madhyamaka, the Path of Great Seal, and the Fruit of Great Perfection. If one generates something in accordance with this, the three spheres appear but are empty of inherent existence, like illusions and dreams, like a city of gandharvas, and even if one draws the certainty that appearances are empty of inherent existence like the moon in water, it is said that the actual practice of aimlessness is effective for beginners. In particular, it is difficult for beginners to attain the actual practice of aimlessness from the very beginning, like pulling the nose to see if it can reach the mouth. As Shantideva said: How to bind the great pillar of mindfulness to the Dharma, so that it does not wander with afflictive thoughts. As it is said, it is very important to either engage in analytical meditation or abiding meditation on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowments, and to alternate between analytical and abiding meditation. The supreme dedication at the end, which causes the roots of virtue to increase more and more, is stated in the Sutra Requested by Ocean of Intelligence: Just as a drop of water falling into the great ocean does not disappear until the ocean is exhausted, likewise, the virtue completely dedicated to enlightenment does not perish until enlightenment is attained. As it is said, just as a drop of water placed in the great ocean does not perish even for a great eon, the cause of the fruit of all-knowingness
