Here, it is shown only briefly, and the details will be explained later. The elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, when applied to shaping forms, will exhaust the strength of the yogi's body. Therefore, one must know the methods of applying the elements to the key letters. Sounds should be known in terms of connecting the four sounds. The rest is clear in the text. The sixteenth question, concerning the desire of the elements, has been explained in three parts. Now, the seventeenth question, the order of the times of sentient beings, is explained, and it is shown through three branch points. First, the order of the times is briefly explained, such as "the times of sentient beings are eightfold," etc. That is, the causes of death for sentient beings are eightfold: 1. In a state of accumulating illness, the elements of the body are disturbed, thus ending life; 2. Depending on the increase or decrease of the wind element, life ends; 3. Depending on the changes in the karma of the elements in the early and late stages of life, life ends; 4. Consciousness cannot remain stable, thus ending life; 5. Depending on generating strong afflictions, life ends; 6. The measure of the flow of the Bodhisattva's wisdom is mistaken, thus ending life; 7. The time when the elements separate, erode, and balance changes, thus ending life. This is the first point, briefly explaining the order of the times. Now is the second point, explaining the signs of the later transfer of wind and mind from the changes of the times: In the summer fire season, the yogi's consciousness is as stable as a kite tied to a stake. Explaining the order of yoga for clothing and food: At this time, if it is a fire body, then perform the ritual of nourishing fire; if it is a water body, then perform the ritual of increasing; if it is an earth body, then perform the ritual of abiding; if it is a wind body, then perform the ritual of balancing. Food, clothing, etc., should be combined with the sleeping wheel. In the winter water season, if it is a water body, then perform abiding; use earth to reverse; use fire to stir; use wind to nourish and increase. In the autumn wind season, use wind to expand; use water to contract; use fire to penetrate; use earth to attract. Spring is the earth season, if it is an earth body, then perform the activity of increasing; use water to perform the ritual of nourishing; use earth to penetrate; use fire to expand; use wind to perform the ritual of cooling. The rest, such as the four activities and other virtuous deeds, should be performed like the sleeping wheel. That is, in the four general seasons, the three months of autumn belong to the realm of wind, and one should rely on food that adjusts the wind, etc. Summer

Perform auspicious blessings on the realm of the three bile. In winter, perform the same auspicious blessings on the realm of phlegm and water. In spring, perform triple combinations and so on for the realm of earth where the three converge. Thus, the wise should perform balancing blessings on the elements in the four seasons. If, due to the transformations of these, the four elements shift from their respective places, the elements of the body will undergo transformations of separation and suffering. In their respective years, months, days, and suns, and at their own determined times, being struck by illness, and then, in the natural time when the elements of the body move towards completion in thirteen days, when the wind of that sentient being shifts, the elements of the body of the sentient being will naturally become dormant. When the time for the mind to shift arrives, that is when one enters the bardo of the nature of reality. Thus, at the time when the respective actions of the elements change, the wind will repeatedly stack up or become short; this is the action of water. For the body of earth, either slow and uninterrupted things will come. For fire, either it will become hot and subtle. For wind, at the time of throbbing and swaying, the fire that arises in this way shortens life. At these times, the consciousness of that person becomes confused and blazing; this is the action of wind. For water, one feels intoxicated; for fire, sometimes one feels empty; for water, one feels afloat. At this time, from impure actions, the five afflictions gather. From the impure action of the throwing wind, one is thrown into the places of the three lower realms. That is to say, a being of impure actions in water diminishes their own bodhicitta, and as a sign of the karma wind acting perversely, one goes to the lower realms. In earth, it becomes very dense and clear. In fire, it becomes subtle. In wind, wisdom is not clear. Thus, the beings of the elements are a sign of going to the lower realms due to the impure throwing karma wind. That is to say, due to the shifting of the transformations of the separation and suffering of the elements, it brings about the end of the life of a sentient being. The above is the second explanation of the time when the karma wind of the time elements shifts. Now is the third explanation of the characteristics of how sentient beings diminish due to the differences in lifespan: The situation of sentient beings in terms of time and so on is clearly explained in the scriptures. The seventeenth question is explained by dividing it into three parts. Now is the eighteenth question of the first chapter, concerning the formation and destruction of the five external elements.
