Listen! This is advice to the collector. Regarding the classification of "wind": wind of wind, phlegm, combination, and bile, these four. Similarly for the remaining three. If combination is emphasized, there is the combination of wind and bile, and similarly, there can be a combination of all three. From the sixteen divisions above, there is no complete combination. In the proportion of one-sixteenth and one-twelfth, the occurrence of combination should be recognized as a characteristic of the recent onset of the disease. Furthermore, if one combines sequentially with the place of occurrence, the time of change, and necessary connections, then the proximate cause of the disease arises from strenuous physical activity, with wind and bile each accounting for one hundred parts. The distant cause is the disturbance of mental memory, with phlegm accounting for one hundred parts and the combination accounting for one hundred parts, which become diseases arising from the mind. Apart from these two, the causes of disease include desire, immoderate drinking, excessive physical burden, sudden awakening from deep sleep, influence from male and female spirits, sudden weapon injuries, hail, anesthesia, and mental suffering, these eight cause suffering in the bodies of sentient beings. In summary, one must identify whether it is a hot or cold disease. This can be determined by observing the external color of the body, the internal body's reaction to food, and the location of the pain. Combine hot and cold, and observe the internal and external conditions of the upper and lower body. The external upper body is the region of wind, the internal is the region of bile, the lower body is the region of combination, and the internal is the region of phlegm. Furthermore, the wise should differentiate the limbs according to their respective symptoms. Blood and serous fluid are the increase of disease, upward movement and agitation are the action of disease, stabbing and stiffness are the punishment of disease, swelling and edema are the basis of disease, diarrhea and vomiting are the signs of disease, and pain and migration are the changes of disease. Intoxication and delirium are the torment of disease. The upper is the region of heat, the lower is of cold. The key to cold is the second region, so combine it with that and proceed with the wheel of dependent origination. By relying on the individual divisions of the first branch, the basis for methods of treating disease is shown. Now, the second part, relying on the key points of the differentiation of body, speech, and mind, shows how to treat diseases arising from the elements:
