Visualize a suitable image, with many hands and feet, holding various weapons, and visualize it bringing you various harms. Observe whether the mind, this non-material thing, is beneficial or harmful. Observe whether this non-material mind will turn into matter or not. It should be revealed whether gods and demons truly exist. Second, relying on fear to cut off self-grasping: If fear arises, then be even more afraid, and let yourself be more depressed and nervous. Rely on it to observe whether you can find this non-material, flowing consciousness. You should observe what the maker of fear and the cause of fear are. Third, relying on obstacles to cut off samsara and nirvana: All the fear that arises from obstacles, the expectation that obstacles will not arise, and the real obstacles that have already arisen, are all illusions of the mind. Therefore, samsara and nirvana are also created by the mind. The fear of wandering in samsara, the expectation of attaining Buddhahood, and so on, are all illusions of the mind. Between samsara and nirvana, between happiness and suffering, between fear and non-fear, there is nothing but the flow of thoughts caused by hope and fear. Determine this as much as possible. Going to sleep in a cemetery is not because ghosts come to sleep, nor is it to make ghosts feel comfortable. Rather, it is relying on the state of external fear to cut off the awareness of the internal fearer. Using the name of ghosts as a pretext, to determine the consciousness that internally clings to ghosts. The practice of the fourth night: First, when you go to Chöd, you should go with three greatnesses. That is, the greatness of the support of blessings, the greatness of the lineage of teachings, and the greatness of the courage to give up body and life. First, the flag of blessings is great: In general, it is necessary to have devout reverence for the Guru and the Yidam, enter their protection, and receive blessings. Especially when you go to Chöd, pray for blessings so that I can transform gods, demons, and obstacles into the path. Pray for blessings so that I can treat favorable circumstances, adverse circumstances, obstacles, happiness, and suffering equally. Pray for blessings so that sickness and suffering can appear as companions for virtuous deeds. Pray intensely in this way, and offer the body, possessions, power, and everything else in the form of a mandala, visualized in the mind. From tonight onwards, my body, speech, and mind no longer belong to me.

Therefore, the field is offered to the Guru and the Three Jewels. Offer it high, offer it thoroughly. Wherever you are, whatever you do, think that the Guru and the Three Jewels know it themselves. Second, the Dharma connection of profound instructions is vast. Generally, all the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, especially the instructions on transforming happiness and suffering into the path, and particularly the essential instructions of the profound Chöd, etc., should be widely heard and learned. Understand the meaning of what you have heard and become familiar with it in your mindstream. No matter what miracles and ferocity occur, think that the inner awareness is a miracle of the mind. Do not think that anything, internal or external, is truly established for even a moment. Third, the generosity of body and life is vast. When going to Chöd, do not have doubts or anticipations about whether illness, obstacles, suffering, fear, etc., will arise. This Chöd is spoken from the Prajnaparamita, the word of the perfectly enlightened Buddha. All the accomplished ones, such as Ama Jomo, also relied on this path to generate realization and give birth to qualities. In the conventional truth, this aggregate of the four elements is born and cannot escape death. Even if guarded by a thousand men wielding swords, it is of no use. In the ultimate truth, even if surrounded by billions of demon armies, they cannot create obstacles or harm. This impure aggregate, a sack of pus and blood, a lump of serum, a trunk of snot, what is it for? If you, demon, need it, take it now! In general, it is dedicated as a ransom for all six realms of beings. Especially, it is given for the sake of you, gods and demons. Therefore, think that there is not even a sesame seed's worth of attachment to this body. Abandon it without pride or attachment and go forth. Having arrived, the practice is: in view, settle on emptiness; in meditation, rest in a state of non-thought; in conduct, equalize all happiness and suffering. First, the so-called view is to look at the object as emptiness. The observer is the mind, which is without inherent existence. The object of observation, in general, does not fixate on anything. Without grasping anything in the mind, rest in the realm of emptiness of objects. In that state, no matter what arises, such as gods, demons, and obstacles, ferocity and arrogance, do not regard them as harmful demons. Do not grasp. Do not meditate. Do not look to beneficial Dharma and instructions, or to protecting deities and gurus, etc. Instead, rest in unborn emptiness, without inherent existence, nothing at all.
