Like me, his own relatives go by themselves, Machig said: This is the supreme of bathing and cleansing, it is the pure purifier. So it is said. In addition, one must touch corpses, live in the midst of stoves, ashes, and feces, wear unclean clothes, sleep in unclean houses and beds, use unclean utensils, eat unclean food, live with defiled companions, mix together, and engage in contact, etc. Whatever happens, do not discriminate, and take the three equalities as the path. To this, emptiness destroys the object of clinging to truth, reverse meditation destroys the attachment of clinging to truth, and equal taste destroys the discrimination of purity and impurity. First, all phenomena encompassed by the outer and inner containers, the six realms of samsara and nirvana, have been empty from the very beginning. Purity and impurity, delicious and not delicious, wanting to vomit and not wanting to vomit, clean and unclean, liking and disliking, these are all established by our own discriminations. In reality, there is not even a particle of true existence. Like the sixteen examples of illusion, it is clearly stated in all the sutras, tantras, and shastras of the Tripitaka. It is accomplished through oral instructions and can also be experienced through reason. Whether realized or not, whether understood or not, one must thoroughly determine in the self-aware, unborn state that it is empty and non-existent from the very beginning. Second, this consciousness that clings to purity and impurity within, in the unexamined appearance, is merely disgusting and terrifying. If examined and analyzed, it will be found to be the work of discrimination. To this, there is not even a particle of substance or truth. Then, who is the vomiter and where is the place of vomiting? What is purity and what is impurity? What is clean and what is unclean? Where is the author who clings to vomiting and uncleanliness? Who is it? What is it like? Thinking like this, view the appearance as unreal as possible, determine it as emptiness and let it go, discard it like garbage. Third, for anything that cannot be endured, such as horror, shame, and vomiting, trample, drive away, and treat equally from the meaning of the previous. Think: You are the author of vomiting, you are the author of horror. If the food is unclean, swallow it whole; if the drink is unclean, drink it down; if the dwelling is unclean, sleep soundly there; if the clothes are unclean, wear them.

Alas! Lepers, corpses, and plagues, etc., go there without hesitation, lepers! Sinners! The defiled ones are all mixed up with them. For this empty mind, there is no distinction between clean and dirty. It's like there's no difference between incense and a rotting corpse in the sky. This body composed of the four elements is itself of an impure nature. It is the master, the container, the accumulation, so it has no distinction between clean and dirty. Just as water poured into water does not become diluted, and fire poured into fire does not burn. Just as coal does not become blacker when painted with black, so too, impurity poured into impurity does not become more impure. Therefore, both aversion and mixing are set up by conceptual thought, and in reality, there is no difference. If one understands this way, the yogi will be able to pacify many attachments and aversions, and the realization of the nature of reality will arise spontaneously. Machig said: "Regard adverse conditions as a burden. If you do not regard all dharmas as a burden, you cannot be liberated by peaceful remedies." Third, cutting off the eight worldly concerns and pleasure and pain: There are three points to this: what adverse conditions to cut off, what antidote to use to cut off, and what benefits arise from cutting off. The first point is that gaining and not gaining, pleasant and unpleasant, fame and infamy, praise and blame, slander and accusation, people's gossip, bad words, mockery, little faith, disrespect, contempt, lack of respect, being blamed innocently, being despised by everyone, discomfort, unhappiness, and so on, all of which are worldly things to be abandoned. The second point has three aspects: Recognize it as karma and do not complain; do not regard it as something to be abandoned because it exhausts sins and obscurations; because it is cause and effect, do not have wrong views. The first point is that whatever unwanted adverse conditions occur, it is a sign that one has accumulated the karma of experiencing adverse conditions in the past and has not accumulated the cause of experiencing favorable conditions. Because nothing falls outside of karma, and karma is never wasted. The second point is that all the unwanted adverse conditions experienced by the body, speech, and mind in this life eliminate all the past bad karma and obscurations. All the karma that will cause rebirth in the lower realms in the future will be eliminated, so one should be happy, one should regard it as necessary, one should regard it as inevitable, one should regard it as kindness.
