Furthermore, regarding the arising of the degrees of outer, inner, and secret accomplishments depending on the superior, intermediate, and inferior faculties, Machig (Tibetan: མ་ཅིག་) said: That indicates three different degrees of accomplishment. Whatever different miracles may occur, being peaceful and gentle is the outer accomplishment. Whatever gods and demons may believe, respectfully offer, and bestow siddhis, is the inner accomplishment. When diseases, evil spirits, and conceptual thoughts are pacified together, and body and mind are at ease, that is the secret accomplishment. From compassion and loving-kindness, from the impermanent lineage, entering the Dharma with the thought of renunciation, that is the accomplishment of the inferior faculty. Whatever fear and terror may arise, being free from trepidation is the outer accomplishment. Whatever diseases, evil spirits, and sufferings may arise, pacifying them without fabrication is the inner accomplishment. Whatever the five poisons and other afflictions may arise, self-liberation is the secret accomplishment. Outer and inner appearances, all objects of the mind, separating the grasping mind from the self, that is the accomplishment of the intermediate faculty. Whatever miracles, malevolence, inauspicious, and great terrors may arise, overpowering them is the outer accomplishment. Whatever diseases, evil spirits, afflictions, and faults may arise, being free from pride is the inner accomplishment. Whatever adverse circumstances, obstacles, and disharmony may arise, appearing as helpers is the secret accomplishment. Through the selflessness of reality, the emptiness of nature, making the stainless nature of reality manifest, that is the accomplishment of the superior faculty. Thus it is said. Regarding the degree of decisiveness, whatever miracles and terrors of gods and demons may arise, if there is no fear, it is the outer decisiveness. Whatever diseases, sufferings, and afflictions may arise, knowing it as karma is the inner decisiveness. Whatever good, intermediate, and bad conceptual thoughts may arise, if there is no concealment, it is the secret decisiveness. Whatever outer and inner desirable qualities may arise, if free from self-grasping, that itself is decisiveness. Thus it is said. Furthermore, there are four ways to distinguish differences: accomplishment with similar scope, scope with similar accomplishment, confusion of mixed accomplishment and scope, and mental imprints where both accomplishment and scope are the same. Among these, the first, accomplishment with similar scope, has six aspects: Burning one's own body and scattering the ashes in the wind is the accomplishment of purifying imprints, but it is not scope. Others striking oneself with weapons, and horned animals" } ] ============================================================

Striking the ground. Pus and blood flowing from being bitten by those with teeth, the appearance of sentient beings and vomit, etc., are signs of liberation from illness, not demonic obstacles. Swallowing poison raw, the three thousand worlds being burned by fire and scattered by the wind, etc., are signs of enjoying the path of afflictions, not demonic obstacles. Eating oneself, fish and snakes swallowing oneself, etc., are signs of the wind-mind entering the central channel and reaching the ultimate, not demonic obstacles. One's body disappearing like dust particles, circling a city of illusions, oneself becoming like a king, etc., are signs of accomplishing the benefit of others, not demonic obstacles. Eating one's own heart, giving it to others, others giving one's lungs and heart to oneself and eating them, etc., are signs of understanding the meaning of the key instructions, not demonic obstacles, there are six in total. Second, demonic obstacles and illusions similar to signs of accomplishment are: gatherings of the dead giving food and clothing, showing respect and welcoming, wearing blue hats and red clothes, going to a field of red flowers, riding a donkey backwards, etc., are showing illusions that obstruct life, not signs of accomplishment. Furthermore, clothes and silks fluttering, many women of different kinds showing respect, bringing brown sugar butter and black sesame seeds, etc., these seemingly good signs of accomplishment, know that they are demonic obstacles and illusions. Third, mixing signs of accomplishment and demonic obstacles to confuse people in different ways are: spinning wool, turning a hand mill, giving unpleasant food and wealth, lighting a fire from below and hanging upside down from above, furthermore, demonic obstacles and illusions appearing the previous night, signs of accomplishment appearing in the middle, and then demonic obstacles and illusions appearing again, or signs of accomplishment, demonic obstacles, and illusions appearing mixed together in one night, etc., these are gods and demons confusing people. Fourth, habits that are similar to both signs of accomplishment and demonic obstacles are: due to the strong habits of past afflictions, the qualities of the grounds and paths not arising, lacking confidence in one's view, not being able to hold onto samadhi even temporarily, the practice of crucial points being intermittent, doubting the key instructions, vows not being pure, and the habit of thinking that demonic obstacles, illusions, and signs of accomplishment have come.
