The secret signs are: being covered by five-colored rainbows and filling the sky; being covered by blue-red storms and filling the space; and also being distracted by red-black storms, filling all the valleys and lands; many tree leaves as large as roofs being carried by the wind into the sky, and oneself going into them; various colors of light blazing like fire, swirling like the ocean, flashing like lightning, arranged like strings. Furthermore, large dark blue jade of very good color, clear and radiant, from the size of a sheep's liver to the size of a kidney, with gradations of size; also good-colored coral, from the size of a sheep's head to the size of a human fist, etc.; black and white striped dzi stones, from the size of a square inch to the length of a span or even the entire palm, these being found as treasures from the earth, or in a treasury, or in a box, or placed on a cushion, etc.; each natural one, or pairs, or strung together like rosaries, etc., being stored by oneself, and what is seen, are secret signs. Therefore, it must be different from others and not confused. Some have animal skins wrapped around their waists, some wear human skin as clothing, some are naked with human intestines as necklaces, holding wet heads with hair in their hands, and so on. Those who show various different appearances are born from the terrifying, dreadful, and cruel nature of darkness. They are not made of flesh and blood, but are like black smoke or black clouds. Moreover, there is no certainty whether they appear as many, one, or a pair. Furthermore, one enters countless black cities, becomes frightened and terrified, and cannot find the way back. One goes to the vast surface of a very tall black mountain that reaches the clouds, and no matter where one goes, up, down, or sideways, one cannot reach the end. All these are special signs of inner demonic disturbances. The outer signs are: black people, black dogs, black birds, black horses, black yaks, black bears, black black ravens with red beaks and claws, and crows. These are just as they exist here and now. They show how they attack you, or follow you in front and behind, or you enter into them. Furthermore, wearing and hoarding black hats and black clothes, entering dark sounds and empty dark rooms, walking on a narrow bridge over a great river and almost falling off, piles of black rocks, black hills like startled herds of yaks, going to a vast black plain, entering a dark and gloomy valley. These are all similar to the situation we are in now, but none of them are permanent. They are impermanent, and each one transforms into many different forms. Therefore, there are many, one, or a pair, and there are many differences in number, so it is necessary to clearly distinguish them. The secret signs are: being wrapped in black light, or one's limbs being bound, seeing a distance of five or six cubits, going to an island of dark mist and not seeing the road, losing oneself in a black storm and being frightened, shivering with cold and bitter cold, being wrapped in swirling black clouds and black fog, and feeling that the clouds and fog are churning in the sky and about to fall on oneself, causing fear.
