I, having the light of fully knowing all dharmas, possessing unobstructedness in explaining, debating, and composing, and having great power to subdue many beings and accomplish their benefit through the light of numerous collections of qualities of fruition, this is called the Great Seal Chö (Mahāmudrā Chöd). Such a dharma has the essential points that are different from other religious systems. Some ordinary people call the darkness of mind, which is merely the nature of falsehood, just bright, just aware, flickering, and fabricated, the Great Seal. Those Great Seal practitioners who do not even know the nature of mind's non-establishment are foolish and ignorant, and should not be trusted, but should be abandoned. In general, all dharmas gather in the center of the one mind-essence. If you know the center of the one mind-essence, you know the center of all dharmas. Therefore, my dharma is the Great Madhyamaka. All dharmas included in appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, are perfected on the one mind-essence. If you know how the meaning is perfected on the one mind-essence, then the meaning of all dharmas is perfected. Therefore, my dharma is also the Great Perfection. Understand it in this way! Thus it was said. Fourth, the division of the four maras is twofold: how they are taught in the sutras and tantras, and the way to distinguish and abandon them. First, this instruction makes the mara the object of dharmata, therefore, this instruction is called Chö with the mara as the object to be cut. In the tantra of the mara it says: 'It is not in accordance with the path and obstructs the path.' And in the tantra of decisive view it says: 'Through the power of ignorance and wrong thought, all the causes and effects of samsara are produced. On the clarity of an instant, attachment and hatred clinging to truth are bound by the mara.' Therefore, attachment and hatred towards the way things appear are all maras. When one realizes their lack of inherent existence through the instructions and practices, the mara becomes the object to be cut by dharmata. As a continuation of the above: 'If you realize that attachment and hatred have no inherent existence, the mara itself will turn into the meaning of dharmata. If you realize that whatever appears has no inherent existence, awareness, mindfulness, and become friends. All are objects to be cut by dharmata, it is well explained.' If the meaning is not understood in this way, then the distinctions of the mara are shown, that is, the three appearances are shown.

In the Sutra of [...], four divisions are mentioned. What are they? The demon with obstacles and the demon without obstacles. The demon of attachment and aversion and the demon of pride. The characteristics of these are: the five senses and the appearance of objects, the arising of true clinging, attachment, aversion, pleasure, and pain. The demon with obstacles is the one who makes acceptance and rejection. The mind distinguishes between good and bad in the realm of phenomena. Making acceptance and rejection with hope and doubt. This is called the demon of unobstructed conceptualization. The ability to pacify disease and evil spirits, the signs of warmth, etc. Attachment, arrogance, and pride in the qualities that rely on the path are the demons of attachment and aversion. One cannot abandon the way things are and the instructions with the mind, one engages in speculation. Doubt and pride are called the demons of pride. Knowing that all appearances are the nature of reality, one cuts off attachment. Without acceptance or rejection, in self-liberation, the demon itself is liberated, without doubt. Thus, the name, meaning, classification, and method of cutting are all shown at once. Secondly, Machig (a female name) said: The distinctions of demons are: demons with obstacles and demons without obstacles. Demons of attachment and aversion and demons of pride. They arise from oneself and harm oneself. For example, like the saliva of a rakshasa. The eye sense is obstructed by form. The demon that grasps at attachment and aversion as the nature of what is beautiful and ugly. Because the basis and essence are not established in the mind that grasps at duality, if one leaves it in its own state as if the root is cut off, then form and so on are suppressed, and again it transforms into wisdom itself. Form is not bound but liberated, in accordance with the teachings. The ear sense and so on, examine them as explained above. This is what is meant by the demon with obstacles. Know that this is an external demon. Without objects appearing as objects, constantly holding them in the mind, and focusing on the mind without objects, and being ignorant without instructions, and seeing self-importance in the mind, and placing jealousy in the mind, and focusing on gods and demons in the mind, etc. Although obstacles do not actually appear, they bring harm to the mind. Like unobstructed, they arise as demons. Emaho! With this key point of my instructions, whatever movement arises, whatever appears, without clinging to anything, all unobstructed demons will be suppressed. The arising of the mind-object is a demon. Grasping and being grasped are the root of separation. Do not grasp at what is to be grasped, son of lineage! Do not block the arising feeling, son of lineage! Do not fabricate body and mind, son of lineage! Do not engage in concepts, son of lineage!
