Friends and faithful followers of U-Tsang, if only they were here now, it would be wonderful. I long to discuss and exchange ideas with them. It would be great to have exchanges, and I remember the Lama again. Thinking of the venerable one. The palace that pleases the Lama, if only it could be built now, it would be wonderful. Even if I am old, I want to build it. Even with this illusory body, I want to build it, and I remember the Lama again. Thinking of the venerable one. Kind parents, father and mother, if only they were here now, it would be wonderful. I long to repay the kindness of my parents and serve them to the best of my ability. I remember the Lama again. Thinking of the venerable one. Great Vajradhara, bless me with your blessings to relieve the sorrow of this beggar. As he spoke, the cloud grew longer and longer, stretching like a cloth over his head. He saw at the end of the cloud, Lama Marpa himself riding on a pure white lion. "Milarepa, why are you crying so loudly today? Have you developed faith in the Lama? Or have you been led astray by bad thoughts? Or has an obstacle of seeking comfort entered your retreat house? Or are you tormented by the fear of evil spirits, or what has happened between your brothers? You and I are inseparable." Hearing these words, he was overjoyed and could not restrain himself, and a realization beyond compare arose. He experienced unspeakable feelings and sang this song of prayer and devotion. By seeing the face and hearing the voice of the Lord Lama, the beggar's heart-wind was calmed. By thinking of your compassion in my mind, devotion of realization arose from the depths. By the actual entry of grace and blessings, non-dharma appearances were instantly cut off. This cry in the empty, uninhabited valley, although it reaches the ears of the father Lama, the beggar's appearances cannot be satisfied by this. This ascetic practice of hard work and endurance is the service to please the father Lama. This solitary hermitage without illness is the service to please the mother Dakini. This endurance of hunger and suffering is for the sake of helpless sentient beings.
