Relying on whatever small amount of tsampa (roasted barley flour) I can find, making many promises to myself, may I not engage in worldly affairs until I attain accomplishment from this body. Until my bad karma is खत्म (藏文:ཟད།,梵文天城体:क्षम्,梵文罗马转写:kṣam,汉语字面意思:宽恕,原意为宽恕,此处应为“耗尽”) is exhausted, may I not encounter people who engage in sinful deeds. Until I attain supreme siddhi (accomplishment), may I not lick the ashes of death food, faith food, and effigies. May all my obstacles, karmic debts, and hindrances be purified. May the wishes of the kind lama be fulfilled. May I accomplish the activities of the Buddha's teachings. May I bear the burden of suffering for all sentient beings. Having said this, he said: Until I attain enlightenment from this place, I will not descend to the village, do you understand? If I do descend, may the Dharma protectors punish me. Having said this, he began to meditate, and one day, he felt like going to a secluded place, so he sang this song. Homage to the body of the great Vajradhara Marpa! Bless me, a beggar, to occupy the mountain cave! How wonderful, Milarepa is happy to hear the Dharma! Words of advice, a voice beneficial to oneself. Away from companions who speak sweet words! Empty is the place where one desires to watch spectacles! There are no circumstances to relieve sorrow and boredom! Mind, do not be distracted, do not be distracted, rest in your own place! If distracted, meaningless and various thoughts arise. Do not be distracted, do not be distracted, rely on mindfulness! If distracted, virtuous deeds are lost to the wind. Do not go, do not go, suppress your bed! If you go, your foot will hit a stone. Do not stretch out, do not stretch out, lower your head! If you stretch out, your hand will go empty and in vain. Do not sleep, do not sleep, accumulate your virtuous deeds! If you sleep, you will be overwhelmed by the five poisons of unconsciousness. Even if you are not liberated by diligent meditation, May I die in a deserted and empty valley! Having said this, he said: Until I attain stability from this place, I do not like the distractions of the village, do you understand? If I fall into the distractions of the village, may the mother dakinis punish me. Having said this, he sang this song. Homage to the lineage of Naropa, the path of liberation! Bless me, a beggar, to dwell in the mountain cave! May I not be distracted by the activities of the demons and the world! May the contemplation of samadhi (meditative absorption) increase! May I not be attached to the pond of tranquility! May the lotus of vipassana (insight) be born from it! May I not hate the roughness and noise of elaboration! May the leaves of non-elaboration flourish! May

In the practice cave, may no dualistic thoughts arise, and may the fruit of realization ripen! May the obstacles of demonic forces be unable to hinder, and may my own mind gain certainty and realization! May no doubts arise about the path of skillful means, and may the son follow in the father's footsteps! O compassionate one, essence of the Immovable Lord, bless me, a wandering ascetic, to dwell in the mountain retreat! Having said this, I wondered, "If I do not attain accomplishment, should I not descend to the village?" If I were to descend, may I receive the punishment of the kind lama, and I bound myself with three vows not to descend. "Can I die in this desolate, uninhabited valley?" Thinking thus in my heart, I exerted myself in practice, and before a year had passed, I was able to sustain myself on nettles without any hindrance. Later, I thought of moving to a place called "Spo ri spo thon, the castle in the sky," where there were many nettles, but because there were no nettles at all, I became very disheartened. Thinking, "If I do not attain accomplishment here, it would be good to live on blue nettles," I abandoned the offering of heroes and concentrated on practice, and the feeling of hunger gradually diminished. The strength of my body grew weaker and weaker, and once, everyone was a little incredulous. Looking at my body, my nose was almost gone, and I had become green and emaciated, tottering and on the verge of collapse. One day, many people came to that rock to look for food, and when they saw me, they initially said I was a non-human and ran away. When I said I was here, they still stood at a distance, muttering, "Is this a human?" They exclaimed in amazement, "Humans do not die!" and then left. After that, I thought that rather than being a human, I would rather die in this rock, but I could not die. After a few days, an old man from among those people brought a piece of tsampa, put it in nettles, and fed it to me, and my body immediately regained its health. At that time, I sang this song: I pray to the body of the supreme lama! Bless me, a wandering ascetic, to dwell in the mountain retreat! Accumulate the merit of good patrons, and establish the connection of profound interdependence. This body, difficult to obtain and easy to perish, is healthy when it encounters food. The essence of the fertile earth and the rain of the blue sky are both interdependent for the benefit of beings. The essence of interdependence is the sublime Dharma. Nourished by parents.
